When we saw Mike Brown leave the game with an injury, Chicagoist feared the worst. Once again, one of the Bears' best defensive players and leaders on the field has a great game going and then has to leave the game prematurely. And the tears in the locker room after the game certainly didn't make us any less worried. Monday evening, our fears were confirmed when the Bears announced that Mike Brown had blown out...

Happy first weekend of September - and happy Labor Day weekend, too, for our American cities! Let's take a look at what's been happening around the Ist-a-verse. The deaths of two firefighters shook Bostonist this week. Boston's firefighters bent over backwards all week long - first, they fought flames pouring from the Boston Tea Party museum, and then a restaurant fire killed two and injured many more. Their efforts make everything else - like Tom...

Londonist are starting to think their city is getting just a little bit too expensive, when even Christian Slater can't afford to go out there. And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt,...

Did the groundhog see his shadow this morning? What does that mean again? We'll just jump forward to spring and get us some tickets to shows where we can don a jacket instead of a parka. My Brightest Diamond will be opening for The Decemberists on a pair of evenings at the Riviera. If anyone has the perfect pedigree to open for the lit-rockers it would have to be Shara Worden. She's the granddaughter of...

We're always looking for ways to max out that credit card. This week it seems that this plan may be a little more difficult than usual. We've picked a few events that go on sale Saturday that will help ease the obesity of our pocketbooks. We skipped the John Mayer set at ACL, but heard of all the Lance/Jake/Matthew sightings over the entire weekend. We don't think the power trio will be at John's shows...

Tuesday night at the Abbey Pub, we got to witness Ghostland Observatory in a smaller venue than their energetic show put on at ACL this year. Tuesday was the last night of their short two week tour, and they had sold out of all their merchandise and no one could grab the music of this band (sorry, it's not a band - it's an agreement between friends) out of Austin. We were thrilled to hear...

Wishing to extend our summer fun by one more weekend, Chicagoist headed down to the Live Music Capital of the World for the 5th Annual Austin City Limits Music Festival. The lineup was similar to that of Lollapalooza and gave us a chance to see a couple of bands we missed there, as well as enough new ones to keep us running from stage to stage. The ACL Music Fest is set up in Austin's...

Saturday night at the Vic, Lucinda Williams took the stage and gave a performance of a lifetime. Preferring not to follow the set list that had been previously decided upon, she would look through a large book with around 240 songs in it and choose that way because sometimes “you have to go with the flow”. The band would peer over her shoulder to see what was next.

Three weeks into the season, and the Bears defense already lost Jerry Azumah, Alfonso Boone, Mike Brown and Charles Tillman for all or most of the season. Brian Urlacher sitting because of his hamstring-- which caused him to miss the whole pre-season--is not a good sigh. And now the Bears lose their field general on the offensive side of the ball. The Bears will now have to rely on Jonathan Quinn at QB for the rest of the season. Unless they decide to sign one of the free agent QB's still looking for a job, like Jeff George... What do you think the should do at QB -- stick with Quinn or look for a more experienced passer?
