Everyone should have a strategy when entering a massive, culinary event like Restaurant Week. For me, try restaurants that I have yet to checked off my 'dining out' list then eye-ing the menu for delicious and unique dishes and finally going back to places that I love but can't regularly fit into the weekly dining budget.

Aigre Doux Closes
These are the things one misses when you leave town for a day. Aigre Doux, the River North bistro of husband/wife team Mohammad Islam and Malika Ameen, has shuttered its doors. A press release yesterday cited the recent passing of Ameen's father and a desire to focus on family as the reasons behind the closing. ameen will be keeping Aigre Doux fans updated on her and Islam's exploits on, where else, twitter. Chicago Gourmet from the Home Cook’s Perspective
With a lineup filled with food seminars, cooking demonstrations, wine classes and a beautifully equipped Viking Culinary Stage at the Pritzker Pavilion, you would think that Chicago Gourmet would’ve been a Mecca for home cooks looking to jazz up their dishes. Think again. While some of the seminars were informative (most notably Greg Hall on beer and cheese and Paul Bartolotta on seafood), others were thinly veiled promos for books, products or restaurants.
