Chicagoist wants to know where exactly the White Sox offense has been. Did they leave it down in Arizona? Because for a team to hold an opponent to one hit yet lose the game is quite an impressive feat! In fact, only 10 times in the past 15 seasons have teams with fewer than two hits won a game.

If you're hiking, consider charging up your iPod, as Seattlest finds out that a man lost during a hike was found by the glow of his iPod. That cleverness seems to be devoid in cops who were using police cruiser instant messaging clients - although we imagine IMs "so are you nakie" to be included in cop shows, just for realism. If only the cops were busting the Hummer-driving jerk who made a poor...
Should the White Sox again find themselves in the World Series this October -- and why shouldn't they? -- they now know they'll have home field advantage, on account of the American League's 3-2 victory in last night's All Star Game. It didn't look quite so promising for a while, however.
Throughout Spring Training, the discussions concerning our two baseball teams' pitching staffs took decidedly differing tones. While Sox fans relished a rotation that was likely the best in baseball with 5 pitchers capable of winning 15 games, Cubs fans worried themselves with the health of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood, and a rotation anchored by a rapidly fading legend. Things haven't gone exactly as most expected. Sure, the White Sox rotation has been extremely...
What a difference a year makes! Last year, as we embarked on a new baseball season, we discussed the eternal optimism of Chicago baseball fans in light of decades of futility. But in 2005 something most unexpected and most wonderful happened. Chicago won a World Series! And it wasn't even the Chicago team that many thought had a shot at the title. While the Cubs entered the season picked by many to reach the postseason,...
Rarely do World Champion teams have as few candidates for major post-season awards as the White Sox. Mark Buehrle and Jon Garland finished 5th and 6th in the voting for Cy Young. Paul Konerko is unlikely to break the top 5 in MVP voting. That just goes to show how the White Sox won as a team rather than riding some superstar's coattails.
It seems that between the Bridgeport Art Walk and some silly little baseball going on this weekend Bridgeport will be teeming with folks making their first visit to the center of the universe, neighborhood of mayors, home of the American League Champion White Sox. Hell, let's stop beating around the bush and say "not Lincoln Park." Well, some of you will eventually get hungry or want to stop in to one of our numerous...
In convincing fashion, the 2005 Sox demonstrated that they are clearly the best team in the American League, defeating the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 5 games. After dropping Game 1 to the Angels and squeaking by in the controversial Game 2, the Sox headed out to Anaheim and dominated the Angels, winning all three games to clinch the AL Pennant.
While our Bean Town siblings warned us about counting our eggs before they hatched, we spent the weekend grilling up some nice chicken dinners in the Chicagoist HQ as the White Sox beat the Red Sox 5-3 Friday afternoon, sweeping the American League Divisional Series. The Red Sox reign is over, only a season after snapping their 86-year curse. A new champion will be crowned. Could it be the White Sox, ending our own...
We know you probably think Chicagoist has our own luxury box at The Cell, but that's just not the case yet. So Chicagoist spent our lunch hour desperately trying to land some tickets to the American League Championship Series so that we can watch our beloved White Sox beat the Yankees or Angels on the way their eventual World Series Championship. However, TicketBastard had other plans. We logged onto Ticketmaster's site a few minutes before...
Chicagoist is a bit old school in that we still love to listen to baseball on the radio. Sure, more often than not we watch the games on TV, but there's a certain romance to having somebody describe the nuances of the game that can't be seen, that the slower pace of the sport allows for. And there also room for stories--of teams and player from years past. We were almost disappointed when play resumed following a White Sox rain delay a few weeks back because we were enjoying some great tales about managers who knew they were about to be fired.
Who would have thought when the season started, that this weekend's 4-game set between the White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles would be such a key series? And the early storyline -- Sosa's return to Chicago -- ended up not happening as Sosa landed himself on the DL this week.
We're about 3 weeks into the Major League Baseball season, and the best pitcher in town probably wouldn't have made everybody's top 10 list going into the season. Demoted to the 5th starter's spot in the White Sox rotation, Jon Garland has been outstanding so far.
