Morning Box Score

It's a rare losing streak for the NHL-best Blackhawks who lost to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim 3-1, their second straight loss. The Ducks didn't use the Flying V to get the victory, just spectacular goal-tending from Jonas Hiller who stopped 42 of 43 shots he faced from the 'Hawks, allowing only a third period power play goal by Duncan Keith. Meanwhile, the Ducks only got off 12 shots the entire game but got two past Antti Niemi (the Ducks' third goal came on an empty netter in the closing seconds of the game). The 'Hawks get a few days of rest before hosting Columbus on Thursday (7:30 p.m., CSN) and then hitting the road for two weeks thanks to Disney On Ice. more ›

The Blackhawks kept on rolling last night, beating the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim 5-2 for their third straight win and their 10th win in their last 12. After a scoreless first period, Kris Versteeg got the 'Hawks on the board and Troy Brouwer added a goal to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. Marian Hossa then scored twice in the first four minutes of the third - once at full-strength and once on a power-play - to give the 'Haws a 4-0 lead that was extended again by Jonathan Toews. Two late goals by Anaheim spoiled the shutout but Antti Niemi still recorded a solid game in goal with 22 saves overall. At just past the halfway point of the season, the 'Hawks are 29-10-3 and sit atop the Western Conference in a first place tie with San Jose (61 points each). The 'Hawks welcome the Minnesota Wild tomorrow (7 p.m., VS). more ›

Blackhawks Look for Success at Home

Blackhawks Look for Success at Home

The Chicago Blackhawks suffered only their second back-to back loss of the season on Wednesday and the first one in over a month. Something Blackhawks fans are not used to. The Blackhawks' 3-2 loss to the Canucks came in the first of a four-game home stand that continues tonight versus the Anaheim Ducks. Eight of the next ten Blackhawks games are at home, which is good news. They could use some home-ice advantage to help... more ›

White Sox Trade Garland

White Sox Trade Garland

The White Sox traded starting pitcher Jon Garland to the Anaheim Angels on Monday in return for shortstop Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera, 33, hit .301 with 86 RBIs for the Angels while also winning his second Gold Glove award for his fielding. Garland, 28, went 10-13 for the White Sox while posting a 4.23 ERA in 32 starts. This move creates as many questions as it does answers for the Sox. We wonder what Kenny Williams... more ›

Bears, Brats, Beer & Boats

Bears, Brats, Beer & Boats

While Sunday's forcast calls for a relatively balmy 41 degrees, that's not exactly boat weather. Especially when there's a Bears playoff game at Soldier Field. But because the Chicago Boat and RV Show runs through Sunday at McCormick Place, there's going to be a real mess along the lakeshore. more ›

Garland Re-Signs With Sox

Garland Re-Signs With Sox

"To the victor goes the spoils", indeed. Jon Garland avoided arbitration this offseason, signing a three-year, $29 million dollar contract with the White Sox yesterday. This year Garland had the breakout season that everyone expected of him when he was drafted by the Cubs then later traded to the Sox. Even though he had a subpar second half, Garland still finished with a record of 18-10 with a 3.50 ERA and a league-leading three... more ›

White Sox Win the Pennant! White Sox Win the Pennant!

In convincing fashion, the 2005 Sox demonstrated that they are clearly the best team in the American League, defeating the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 5 games. With Pierzynski called safe, Ozzie Guillen sent Pablo Ozuna in to run for him. Ozuna stole second base, and then Joe Crede smashed a double off the wall in far left field. Ozuna scored, Sox won! more ›

Sox Can't Capitalize

Sox Can't Capitalize

Chicagoist admits we might have been a little over-confident going into Game 1 of the ALCS. We thought that the Angels' three games in three cities in three nights with 5000 miles of travel in between would give the Sox a decided advantage. And then there were thoughts of facing a tired Paul Byrd and an overworked bullpen. But in spite of all those factors working against the Angels, they came up on the winning... more ›

Bring on the Angels

Bring on the Angels

Following their 5-3 victory Monday night, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim eliminated the New York Yankees and earned themselves a red eye flight to Chicago to face off against the well rested White Sox Tuesday night in the ALCS. The Sox will send Jose Contreras to the mound against The Angels' Paul Byrd. more ›

Blackhawks Return to Ice After Year Off

Blackhawks Return to Ice After Year Off

The Blackhawks join the rest of the NHL in their return to the ice tonight after losing the entire 2004-2005 season to labor strife. In the opener, the Blackhawks face the Anaheim Mighty Ducks at the United Center. A lot has changed, both for the NHL and the Blackhawks. The Hawks have a new GM in Dale Tallon, a new coach in Trent Yawney and many new faces on the roster. Their biggest signing was... more ›
