The Chicago Bulls dramatically upgraded their franchise in terms of toughness over the holiday weekend. First, Benny the Bull was arrested at the Taste of Chicago, after riding a mini-motorcycle without a permit and then throwing a punch at a sheriff's deputy. Barry Anderson, in costume as Benny the Bull, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway.

Man, that smarts! Just as Chicagoist is getting all excited about the Bulls in the playoffs, the Bulls announced today that Eddy Curry -- sidelined since March 30 because of an irregular heartbeat -- is out for the remainder of the season, incuding the playoffs. A press conference has been scheduled for 7:00pm this evening to give more details about Curry's situation.

The Bulls played a matinee today in celebration of the Martin Luther King holiday. Facing off against the New York Knicks for the second time in three days, the Bulls knocked off the Knicks 88-86 at Madison Square Garden. Running down the clock, rookie Ben Gordan -- playing his first pro game in his home town -- hit a floater with 0.01 seconds left giving the Bulls the two-point win.

The Bulls tip off against the New Jersey Nets tonight at the United Center. Starting the opener will be: Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich at guards, Andres Nocioni and Othella Harrington at forward and Tyson Chandler in the middle. Eddie Curry won't be in the lineup because he'll be serving the first of his two game suspension for his part in a fight against Washington during the pre-season. This lineup is likely to be fluid, however. Curry will displace Harrington once his suspension is up, shifting Chandler to forward. And if Gordon's poor pre-season play continues, look for Luol Deng to move into the starting lineup. So any way you look at it, expect two rookies in the starting lineup.
