A few months ago, Ann Sather packed up and moved a few doors east into a brand-spankin’ new location at 909 W. Belmont. The old location was put up for sale, and it was anyone’s guess who would win the bid to settle in. It always makes us nervous when there is retail space for rent in our neighborhood; because we would rather see a distinctive new business that will bring character to the area, instead of another Starbucks, Jamba Juice, or Potbelly’s.

Wow, Alderman Tom Tunney has been having an interesting couple of months. First he gets a ticket for talking on his cell phone while driving and may have received special favors from the police department, then he makes a sweet deal and moves his flagship Ann Sather's, and now it's being reported that Tunney was the victim of an attempted holdup yesterday afternoon just a block from his 44th ward office.

Hey, Andersonville residents!! Are you in the throes of sticky bun withdrawal from seeing your neighborhood Ann Sather close up shop? It's probably old news by now to some (we learned about it from Chicago Magazine's "Dish" e-newsletter), but Debbie Tunney, the longtime owner, recently retired. Her farewell message can be read at her catering website; a call to the Andersonville location says that the store will re-open soon under new management.

Next week is Thanksgiving.

Chicagoist loves doughnuts, so when Ann Sather restaurant -- home of another breakfast favorite, cinnamon rolls -- sent out the word that on Tuesday, February 8, they would be serving paczki, at their Lakeview location we made plans to make like Homer Simpson and put in our order.

Saturday was a beautiful day and Chicagoist had a few friends in from out of town so we all headed down to Grant Park for Taste of Chicago, which claims to be the world's largest food and free music festival. Wow, what a bunch of gluttons we were!!! Tickets were $7 for 11 tickets and the three of us each bought $21 worth of tickets. .. what's that? 99 tickets? At each of the festival's 70 restaurant booths there were several food items to choose from that ranged in price from 2 - 9 tickets.
