One of the more contentious races in Tuesday's election is at the Cook County Board of Review, where incumbent Joe Berrios is facing a stiff challenge in trial lawyer Jay Paul Deratany. For many homeowners throughout Cook County, the Board of Review is their best chance at finding relief from both the monster property tax increases proposed by Mayor Daley and the County Board and the skyrocketing assessments of County Assessor Jim Houlihan.

Mrs. Mongo McMichael Arrested
What is it with the wives of Chicago sports stars? A few years back, Antonio Davis's wife made headlines for her bouts of road rage and attacking fans at the UC. Now Misty McMichael, the wife of former Bears wild man Steve "Mongo" McMichael, is making headlines after being arrested for speeding, marijuana possession and possession of an unregistered gun last week. Lincolnshire police investigator John-Erik Anderson stated that, "[The arresting officer] asked the occupants...
Bulls Earn 7th Seed
The final day of the NBA season was a crazy one, at least in terms of the Eastern Conference playoff seeding. Chicagoist certainly wasn't a math major in college, so we had to wait for the media to explain to use the scenarios and outcomes. They could end up anywhere from 5th to 8th, depending on the outcomes of Wednesday's games.
Bulls Waive Goodbye to Tim Thomas
Tim, we hardly knew ya. Sent home just days into the season by Bulls management, they finally waived Thomas on Wednesday after they were unable to work out a trade prior to the trading deadline. Thomas played in just 3 games for the Bulls following his acquisition by the Bulls as part of the Eddy Curry deal. The Bulls were primarily interested in his expiring contract, and when he sensed he wasn't part of the...
Trading Deadline Looms as Bulls Head into Second Half
The Bulls embark on the second half of their season tonight -- well, kind of. It's their first game following the All Star Break, but only 30 games remain in the regular season. With a 23-29 record at the break, the Bulls are currently out of the playoffs picture. However, they're only 2 games behind the 76ers for the 8th seed so a playoff berth isn't impossible. But can their current roster play better over...
Could Kendra Davis Become a Fixture at the UC?
Last week was yet another stressful week for poor Antonio Davis. On Thursday, his wife Kendra was charged with battery stemming from an October "road rage" incident in Naperville in which she allegedly flug hot coffee at another motorist. Just as the hype surrounding her United Center bruhaha started to die down this comes to light! Did Antonio know about that run-in? Maybe he was trying to protect David Axelrod from his wife and not the other way around...
Was That So Hard?
In a joint statement released yesterday, Antonio Davis and Michael Axelrod announced that they were putting their little tiff behind them that resulted from last week's incident at the United Center.
Chicagoist Week In Review: Fake Tan Edition
The Bears’ lazy Sunday started off a slow week on Chicagoist before things heated up with spirited discussions about the unique charms of Antonio Davis’s wife, the Central time zone and Thax Douglas.
If I had a Million Dollars...
Chicagoist wonders if that Barenaked Ladies song is running through the head of Michael Axelrod, one of the fans involved in the incident at the UC the other night that caused the Knicks Antonio Davis to jump into the stands to protect his wife. Yesterday, Axelrod's lawyer Jay Paul Deratany said they planned to sue Davis and his wife for more than $1 million, alleging that Kendra Davis battered him and Antonio Davis slander him...
Excitement at the United Center
It's been a while since there's been as much excitement at the UC as there was last night. The Bulls won an exciting 106-104 game on a Ben Gordon shot as time expired in OT. Having missed a nearly identical shot with seconds left in regulation when he could have dished to an open Darius Songaila, he redeemed himself with the game winner. But that shot may not have been the biggest excitement at the UC.
Bulls Season Preview
Tonight, the Bulls open their 2005-2006 campaign, and for the first time since MJ left town there are fan expectations that the season will end with a playoff run. Last season, the young Bulls surprised many when they finished the season 47-35 -- especially after an 0-9 start. While they exited the playoffs in the first round, there was a great deal of hope that they'd build upon that and become a contender in the...
Bulls Blink First, Trade Curry to Knicks
Contract negotiations between the Bulls and Eddy Curry had remained at a standstill most of the off-season, as the Bulls requested that Curry take a DNA test before they clear him to play while Curry and his agent refused. With Monday's deadline for signing qualifying contracts for the 05-06 season, the Bulls traded Curry to the Knicks when they couldn't get Curry to agree to the DNA test.
