A Few Cubs Not Thrilled About Bartman Doc

A Few Cubs Not Thrilled About Bartman Doc

A few days ago, we mentioned ESPN had produced a documentary on the infamous Steve Bartman for their "30 For 30" series and readers seemed to share the same exasperation we felt when reading the news: just let it die already. Anyone who blames Bartman for the Cubs falling apart in the 2003 NLCS didn't watch the 2003 NLCS. And now it seems the Cubs players involved in that playoff series feel the same as we all do. more ›

Cubs Stars Speak Out On 'Roiders

Cubs stars Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez are putting in their two cents on the recent round of steroid accusations (cough*A-Rod*cough) and both come down pretty hard on those who break the rules. Said Lee, ''There should be zero tolerance. We've had plenty of warnings. There's no excuses. You get caught now, there should be no sympathy. A year to me is even light.'' Meanwhile, his teammate Ramirez wants the 104 perpetrators exposed: ''Because [otherwise] everybody's going to be looking over your shoulder and saying, 'They might have done it,' or, 'They might have done it.' Just get it out and get it over with and move on." The Sun-Times has more comments from the two stars. And what of Alfosno "The $136 Million Dollar Man" Soriano, who became a Texas Ranger the year after A-Rod left the team? Said Fonz, ''I played in Texas for two years, and I didn't see anybody do it." more ›

Aramis Ramirez Wins Hank Aaron Award

Cubs slugger Aramis Ramirez was announced as the N.L. winner of the Hank Aaron Award shortly before Game Four of the World Series on Sunday night. Partly voted on by the fans, the award recognizes each league's best offensive performer. Ramirez finished 2008 with a .297 averag, 27 homers, and 111 RBI's. Congrats, Aramis, but you know what would have been better than winning an award Sunday night? Playing in the game Sunday night. Not that we're bitter or anything.... more ›

Wait Until Next Owners

Wait Until Next Owners

Well, that didn't take long, did it? The Arizona Diamondbacks finished off the Cubs 5-1 on Saturday, sweeping the NLDS ... and delaying a Cubs World Series at least another year. Those of us familiar with the Cubs knew what to expect from Game Three as a soon as Rich Hill's very first pitch to Chris Young ended up in the left-field bleachers. Hill was lucky to escape the inning down only 2-0, and he... more ›

Cubs Swept... But Brewers Swept, Too

Cubs Swept... But Brewers Swept, Too

If the past week is any indication, it's beginning to look like Houston could end up as the winners of the NL Central this year. While a Cubs surge through June and July allowed them to catch the Milwaukee Brewers in the standings last week, since that time neither club has looked like they want to win the division crown. Last night, Carlos Zambrano got rocked for seven runs over 5.2 innings as the Astros... more ›

Soriano Strains Hamstring

Soriano Strains Hamstring

For the Cubs, every silver lining seems to have its cloud. While the offense and pitching came together and led the team to a 12-4 victory over the San Diego Padres Monday night, the victory may cost the Cubs the services of Alfonso Soriano for a while. Soriano left the game in the fifth inning after straining his hamstring, which could land the Cubs' 136-million-dollar man on the disabled list. Soriano injured his hamstring trying... more ›

Cubs Sign Soriano

Cubs Sign Soriano

For a company in financial trouble, the Cubs' parent company sure has been quick to open up the wallet this off season. Following last week's re-signing of Aramis Ramirez to a rich new deal, the Cubs made the biggest splash of baseball's free agency period by signing Alfonso Soriano to an 8-year, $136 million deal on Monday. Soriano batted .277 with 46 home runs, 95 RBIs, 41 doubles and 41 stolen bases -- becoming the... more ›

2006 Baseball Preview

2006 Baseball Preview

What a difference a year makes! Last year, as we embarked on a new baseball season, we discussed the eternal optimism of Chicago baseball fans in light of decades of futility. But in 2005 something most unexpected and most wonderful happened. Chicago won a World Series! And it wasn't even the Chicago team that many thought had a shot at the title. While the Cubs entered the season picked by many to reach the postseason,... more ›

Five Chicago All Stars

Five Chicago All Stars

Major League Baseball announced its All Star rosters over the holiday weekend, and at least five Chicago players will be in Detroit for the game on July 12th. Representing the White Sox will be Paul Konerko, Jon Garland and Mark Buehrle. Konerko was a bit of a surprise, considering his .247 batting average. But it's kind of a make-up call for last year's snub when he was hitting close to .300 at the time. Garland and Buehrle clearly deserve their selections. In fact, one or the other is likely to be the starting AL pitcher for the game. Having already earned $15,000 bonuses for making the team, each have an additional $10,000 bonus riding on starting the game. more ›

Vote Fraud on All Chicago Team?

Vote Fraud on All Chicago Team?

The Trib named its All-City team leading up the first meeting between the White Sox and Cubs this year. As the second crosstown series approaches, the Trib is allowing its readers to pick their team. Chicagoist is a little skeptical of the result thus far, however. We make no excuses for our allegiance to the South Siders and the Sox do sport the best record in baseball, but we still think the fan selected All-City... more ›

All-Chicago Team

All-Chicago Team

It's the eve of the first meeting between the Cubs and the White Sox in 2005. For the players, it's an off day. But their fans are beginning to get riled up across the city. Debates, and probably fist fights, have fans of both teams disagreeing on the merits of their team vs. the other team. While the Sox are clearly the better team, reason played little part in these debates. And sometimes reason is... more ›
