Baconfest Chicago proper won't be for another six months, but if Saturday's VIP pro cookoff is any indication organizers Seth Zurer, Michael Griggs and Andre Pluess might want to have some ambulances at the ready. Or at least some Lipitor. We won't get into another debate about how played out the bacon meme is; haters will hate, lovers will love. But there was a sense of fun among the crowd Saturday. As vocal as the pro- and anti-bacon folks can be, the overall vibe was lifted from Alfred E. Neumann: "What? Me Worry?" Few took themselves seriously at the cookoff and levity reigned. So did excess.

Baconfest Chicago may have been postponed until April, but the VIP bacon cookoff at the Publican slated for October 24 is still a lock. In fact, tickets went on sale at noon.
Although we have raised a significant amount of pledged monetary and in-kind sponsorship support, we have not been able to meet the financial goals that would make it possible to produce the event on the original time-line.

We've been out of town for a few days working on something really cool for the site (which will be running in a little more than a week), so this news that Baconfest Chicago found a home at the Stan Mansion in Logan Square was completely missed, although Sula and Rosner were quick to fill the void.
The first thought that ran through our head when we found out about Baconfest Chicago was, "the bacon meme just jumped the shark." Although they don't seem to take themselves seriously on the blog and in their bios, co-founders Michael Griggs, Seth Zurer and Andre Pluess are serious about creating a local festival showcasing the joys of eating the "Candy of Meats."
