One-time media magnate - and former Sun-Times owner - Conrad Black appeared in Chicago once more yesterday as he attended a hearing that set the terms of his bail. Business man and fancy pants Roger Hertog shelled out the $2 million to spring Conrad from jail after a U.S. Appeals court ruled Black could go free thanks to a ruling earlier this summer by the Supreme Court that limited the honest services law that had previously been used to convict Black.

Conrad Black Gets Bail Hearing
Jailed former Sun-Times owner may not be jailed for much longer. With the SCOTUS recently over-turning the honest services law that was used to jail him in the first place, a US Appeals court yesterday said Black could go free on bail soon. While still jailed as of right now, he could be released after a bail hearing scheduled for tomorrow and remain free while his case remains in the system on appeal. The hearing will be right here in Chicago tomorrow morning in the courtroom of judge Amy St. Eve.
Murder Charges Filed In McClendon Killings
Though police had charged two teens - Reo Jonta Thompson, 17, and Gregory Brooks Jr., 18 - with several counts related to the murders of Ruby and Milton McClendon, they had yet to file murder charges against them even as it was reported one of the teens confessed. That all changed today as both teens were charged with two counts of murder in the perpetration of a robbery. The teens also claimed there was a third person with them, named Kevin Langley. CBS 2 reports, "The teens reportedly have blamed each other for the shootings, and charging affidavits do not detail the killings...investigators do not believe Kevin Langley is a real person." The pair, arrested last week in Cook County, have since been extradited back to Indiana where they are each being held on $250,000 bail.
McClendon Murder Suspects Held On Bail
As evidence against them mounts, the pair of teenagers suspected in the murder of Ruby and Milton McClendon are each being held on $250,000 bail. But while the pair have been charged with auto theft, robbery, burglary and confinement, no murder charges have been filed yet as the investigation continues. According to the Tribune, one of the charged teens, 18-year-old Gregory Brooks, allegedly admitted to the robbery and murders, reportedly telling police that after he, 17-year-old Reo Thompson, and a third man robbed the couple, they left their home but later returned to "finish them."

Court Denies Peterson Bail Request
An Illinois Appellate Court refused a request by Drew Peterson's attorneys to lower his bail from $20 million. As it stands, Peterson would have to pony up $2 million to be released. Head attorney Joel Brodsky said, "We're disappointed in the ruling from the Illinois Third District Appellate Court, but we accept the court’s ruling. However, we are also confident that as the weakness of the state’s case is exposed over the following weeks and months we will have another opportunity to ask for a reduction in bond." [Sun-Times]
