Friday Afternoon Diversion

We don't understand what the "no pie, no sledgehammer team" means. We do understand that this Beastie Boys "trailer," along with the sneak peek at "Make Some Noise," has us pretty excited for their forthcoming Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. The NYC trio seems to be re-embracing their roots instead of playing an homage to their influences and we can totally get down with that. Also, "more cowbell." more ›

Beastie Boys Cancel All Summer Dates

According to the band's publicist, "Adam "MCA" Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland." The outlook is very positive but he requires surgery which will sideline him for the summer touring season. The band is also pushing back the release of their new record due out this fall. We are awaiting confirmation but that would seem to also take them out of the line-up for this year's Lollapalooza. We have confirmed they have cancelled their Lollapalooza appearance as well. Obviously we wish Yauch a speedy recovery. more ›

Official Lolla After-Shows Announced

For those of you have said "I'm done with the crowds, the after-shows are where it's at anyway," Lollapalooza's official after-shows have been announced. Of course it's great to see your favorite acts in a smaller venue, but you generally also have to shell out a lot more cash, that is if you even get tickets. But, it's worth it to take your chances! more ›

We Don't Cause Trouble, We Don't Bother Nobody?

We Don't Cause Trouble, We Don't Bother Nobody?

As a boater on Lake Michigan, you're entitled to profanity-free air. At least that's what a group of 300 boaters and motorists, who came together to protest on Sunday night, are saying. They're, as the punny Trib puts it "honking mad" about the youth-infecting rap music that's been occurring at Northerly Island for the past two weeks. There were apparently complaints after the show on Aug. 26, which included Wu-Tang, MF Doom and Pharoahe Monch.... more ›

Weekend Extra: The Best of the Week in the Global "Ist" Village

Londonist are starting to think their city is getting just a little bit too expensive, when even Christian Slater can't afford to go out there. And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt,... more ›

We've Never Seen The Bathrooms Cleaner

We've Never Seen The Bathrooms Cleaner

This past Sunday marked the 25th birthday of Chicago’s most beloved (and sometimes bemoaned) rock club, the Cabaret Metro. Known to most simply as “The Metro,” the joint kicked off its venerable life with a performance by a then-little-known rock combo from Athens, GA called R.E.M. A quarter-century later, Metro is one of the last remaining major independent clubs in the country, with a rich history of offering many of rock’s most hallowed names their... more ›

The East Coast Just Got a Little Bit Closer

The East Coast Just Got a Little Bit Closer

When cabin fever sets in, we take good news any place we can get it. Still, we had to read this bit of news twice when we received it. A press release sent to Chicagoist and other outlets yesterday from the Brooklyn Brewery announced that they've reached an agreement with distributor River North, allowing the Williamsburg-based craft brewer to sell its flagship lager, Brooklyn Brown Ale, and Brooklyn East India Pale Ale in the Chicago... more ›

Hear Some Music, Feed Some People

Hear Some Music, Feed Some People

So how’d that voting thing go for you? Felt pretty good didn’t it? Even if your candidate didn't win you gotta love taking part in democracy, steering the direction of the country, all that good stuff. Why not keep that good feeling going for the rest of the week and see some good music too? more ›
