Chicago Restaurants Break into the Big Time ... This Year

Chicago restaurants are finally back in the spotlight. Can you hear the sarcasm dripping from our fingers? Last year, Esquire's John Mariani didn't deem any Chicago restaurants worthy for inclusion into his list of the "Best New Restaurants of 2009." Several standouts made his "also-ran" list, including the Bristol, the Publican and Sepia, but it was a swing and a miss for Chicago restaurants as far as Mariani was concerned. Given longtime suspicions of Mariani concerning objectivity and pay for play, we doubt many Chicago chefs were losing sleep over their absence. more ›

Time Out Chicago - The Eat Out Awards

We attended the Time Out Chicago Eat Out Awards last night at the Cultural Center. Man, that Tiffany dome looks great. Kicked off by host Stephanie Izard, the awards began with the Critics' picks before finishing the night with the readers' choices. We sat at a table next to Martial Noguier and his wife and boy, talk about a couple in love. They exchanged a sweet kiss between smiles and applause. Pretty cute. more ›

Alinea, Trotter's Make Another Best Restaurants List

The S. Pellegrino list of the World's 50 Best Restaurants was announced yesterday. Both Alinea and Charlie trotter's made the cut: the House of Achatz settles in at #21 while Trotter's lands at #38. What is notable about the two restaurants' inclusion on the lsit is that Alinea jumped up fifteen spaces from its debut on last year's list, while Trotter's fell eight spots. more ›
