Kanye Plays Santa In The Summer

Kanye Plays Santa In The Summer

For a guy without a new record (yet; more on that in a second), we've talked quite a bit this summer about Mr. West here at Kanyeapologist. Since Memorial Dayish, 'Ye released the pretty awesome single "Power," gave his support to LeBron, joined Twitter where he only follows Justin Bieber (no, really), and talked to the interwebs about jeans. We already know that new record of his is (probably) out in mid-November (just in time for Christmas) so it's appropriate that Kanye has now decided to play Santa. On Sunday, Kanye announced via some tweets that he's putting out a new song of some sort every Friday and how much of an altruist he is. more ›

Weekend Diversion

So apparently Lady Gaga has a new video out for her song "Telephone" and it features Beyonce, a women's prison straight off of a bad Skinemax movie with scantily clad women, product placement, and it's over 9 minutes long and it's weird. Whatever. As much as I love Beyonce, if want to watch two super-duper stars in an awful music video that will forever be burned into my corneas, I'll take Jagger and Bowie singing "Dancing in the Streets," thankyouverymuch. more ›

Humpday Diversion: All The Single Mayberry Ladies

It's a bit old, sure, but it's new to us and we're suckers for Beyonce so we dig this fun mash-up. more ›

Beyonce To Testify In Copyright Case

Beyonce is coming back to Chicago but this performance will be in a courtroom, not a concert hall. Chicago songwriter and performer Rickey Allen filed a copyright infringement lawsuit a few years ago about one of his songs, "Cater 2 U" and a Destiny's Child song by the same name. Beyonce's lawyers claim she was "the source" for the Destiny Child's version of the song and she'll likely testify when the trial gets underway in a federal courthouse here next month. Dispatch From D.C.: 'We Are One' Concert

             + 13 more

After our morning at the Capitol, we made our way over to the Lincoln Memorial for the "We Are One" Concert which was to feature a range of political, celebrity, and musical appearances before an expected crowd of up to 500,000. We were plenty early as we made our way through the masses and it gave us a chance to scan the hundreds of items available to buy from the countless vendors. Shirts, towels, buttons, flags, you name it, it probably has Obama's picture on it and you're going to pay a a lot of pennies for it. Once inside the grounds, we found the press section nestled below the right side of the stage with a nice view, though the set pieces and a jumbotron obscured our view of one of the two onstage podiums as well as the actual Lincoln Memorial, but, still, we weren't complaining. We dodged CNN's John Roberts as he filmed a report from our corral and set up position for the show. more ›

Rockin' Our Turntable: The Best Music of 2008

Rockin' Our Turntable: The Best Music of 2008

Yup, here it is, the inevitable "Best of 2008" music list (a later post centering on the top local offerings is forthcoming). In order to spare our readers the pain of reading through yet another list that tries too hard to impress with obscure releases or toe the party line on Stereogum / Pitchfork approved artists, we continue our personal decade-plus tradition of merely listing what we actually liked in 2008. That means that the albums below are the one we kept finding ourselves turning to when we wanted to kick back and enjoy some tunes. Sure, there was more artistically challenging stuff released this year than some of the selections below -- and we certainly do appreciate that sort of thing -- but our year end list reflects which music ultimately did for us what we think rock and/or roll is ultimately meant to do to any listener: it grabbed us by the heart and/or crotch and wouldn't let go. more ›

Empty Out Your Wallet

Empty Out Your Wallet

We have a huge case of the giggles today. It all started when we tried to type “jagoff” and it came out “jagoof” and we could not stop laughing at ourselves for five minutes. Then we decided to be productive and write up this edition of EOYW, which only proved that the Ticketmaster gods were laughing along with us with their offerings for this week’s ticket sales. more ›

With all that went down this week, we thought we thought we'd cheer everyone up by giving everyone a double dose of dogs. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions this week at DCist. Like the rest of country, we were floored by the news of so many dead coming out of Virginia Tech, and with so many of the victims and their relatives from the D.C. area, we felt it important to pay... more ›

So You Think You Can Be Crazier Right Now?

Ring the alarm! Beyonce's on the lookout for a whopping 40 back-up dancers, and she's coming to Chicago on her search. Check out the Best of the -ists from this week, and see if you agree. Londonist answers the questions "How much... more ›

Ebert Recovering, Making Calls to the Bullpen

Ebert Recovering, Making Calls to the Bullpen

We’ve gotten used to Roger Ebert’s medical problems by now so when he went in for his latest round of surgery, we figured he’d be back up and around in no time. Much like the T-1000*, nothing seems to keep him down for long, short of dipping him in molten steel. more ›
