There are three Cocina Cocula locations in Chicago. The closest one to us is a short — and, for yesterday, hot — bike ride away where Pilsen blends into Little Village. We've often passed Cocula on our way to our favorite haunts in La Villita, but with the sound of sirens in the air all around yesterday, we figured it would be as good a place as any to cool down and have a nosh....

Here’s what you missed while you were thinking about giant ketchup packets: August is supposed to be a slow month? The dance community didn't get that memo. Aside from the Jazz Dance World Festival, next month sees Dance for Life, a gala for AIDS-related charities; Mark Morris Dance Group presented by Ravinia at the Harris Theater; Chicago Dancing Festival at Millennium Park; and the conclusion of the Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s Summer Festival. The Berwyn...

Normally, this would be Kevin's territory, and he covered the reasons we're weighing in today at length yesterday. As we sit in front of a computer terminal in Wisconsin fresh from a bike ride to New Glarus, the sights of yellow "support our troops" ribbons, flags and jingoistic bumper stickers every quarter-mile along the route fresh in our mind, we felt the need to write.

Part of an international movement, Chicago’s fourth-annual World Naked Bike Ride is set for this coming Saturday. Check-in will be from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in Union Park, near 100 N. Ashland, at the statue of former Mayor Carter Henry Harrison, Sr. He would be so proud. The official e-mail announcement arrived in Chicagoist’s mail box today, and warns non-participants and disruptive people will be turned away, suggesting you’re not welcome if you’re just...

It's Easter, y'all. That means, in addition to the re-enactment of the Passion happening as we write this in Pilsen, churches will be filled, families will gather, and restaurants will offer Easter Brunch specials. We have a few for you, in addition to the usual complement of food news and notable events. So sit back and unbuckle your belts. Who Comes Up With These Names, Anyway?: Leave it to us to be late to the...

As we at Chicagoist ponder whether or not to add "sketchy-ass hot dogs", foie gras, and the 46th Ward to "hating on the Amish" and Macy Fields as retired subject matter, we start off this week's edition of "Your Friday Food Buffet" with, well, foie gras hot dogs. We also have a photo that should even pass reader Marilyn's sensitive eyes. That is, unless she's in favor of Prohibition. We'd Rather Help Doug Sohn Break...

We know you've been writing to Blagojevich, Daley and all the CTA members faithfully each day, pleading for more money for the CTA (ahem). You haven't wanted to give in to your addiction to oil and drive a car, despite all of the ways lawmakers are trying to ease congestion. You may just start hopping around on jets if you get your passenger's bill of rights, but until then, you need some hope that your transportation woes will be addressed.

Anyone who's been reading all of the posts on Chicagoist about bike riding and just how cool it is will be excited to know that this Friday is again a happy Friday, time for Critical Mass. The massive monthly ride will start some time around 5:30PM at Daley Plaza, mark your calendars. If you stick it out for the whole route, you'll probably be out until 10PM so plan accordingly. An Oktoberfest themed route is planned to celebrate Chicago's German heritage. The best way to do that is of course by biking past places that serve or are involved in the history of delicious beer. For a nice narrative introduction to just what critical mass is check this video from Inside Chicago (partially NSFW.) The crowd is usually very diverse and energetic so you are bound to find some like-minded people to ride with.

For this week's installment of "Cheap Eats", Chicagoist revisited the treasure trove of restaurants in and around Harper Court Shopping Center, in Hyde Park. This time around, we stayed along 53rd Street and visited a neighborhood favorite.

Yesterday the city announced plans to link together a 500-mile network of bike routes, including almost 200 miles of new street routes. More bike paths = good, but also great are the safety issues the plan addresses.

Lest some of you think that Chicagoist is gonna take it easy after last night - although some of us probably should - today we give you a special Friday version of "South Side Cheap Eats". This one's a doozy, folks. It's been a Pilsen mainstay for as long as we can remember. Steak & Egger has locations dotted along the near western suburbs, but it's their Pilsen location (mere steps from Chicagoist favorite May...

Chicagoist would rather spend our Sunday morning sleeping off the night before, but apparently a lot of others find it the perfect opportunity to go for a swim, a run and a bike ride.
