About a month back, we mentioned a celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of William S. Burroughs' Naked Lunch and to raise money for a new Burroughs documentary, William S. Burroughs: A Man Within. The event is upon us and if you're still looking for something cool to do (that also supports the arts and several local artists involved with the film!), tickets for the event will still available at the door. The celebration gala will feature Peter Weller, star of the film version of Naked Lunch, alongside Warhol Superstar Penny Arcade, SNL musical director Hal Willner and Dr. Bill Ayers.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. and Bill Ayers paired up Sunday to lead community activists, clergy, and residents in Oak Park on an annual walk to rally for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The two drew over 400 people to a forum before the walk held at the First United Church of Oak Park and urged a new perspective on the Mideast conflict more in line with the President’s. According to the Tribune, The Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine, the organizers of the event, said Ayers and Wright were invited for their work on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, not their political notoriety.

While their relationship just might be a tempest in a teapot -- or in Obamaspeak, a "distraction" -- is the fact that Obama is once again downplaying a friendship really the bigger deal? After all, this is the same guy that originally tried to claim he hardly knew Tony Rezko, and had only performed a few hours of legal work for him. Where's that famous Obama transparency?
