It was a bruising night for the Blackhawks as, for the second time in a week, they lost a player to a hard - and shady - hit and then lost the game, falling to the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. The Ducks struck first just over four minutes in but Brent Seabrook answered for the 'Hawks to tie the game at 1-1. Early in the second, Seabrook got knocked out of the game when former Blackhawk James Wisniewski hit Seabrook high and hard, a retaliation for a hard hit Seabrook had just put on the Ducks' Corey Perry. The Ducks took a 2-1 lead on a short-handed goal in the second only to have Marian Hossa answer early in the third to tie the game. But the Ducks caught a break when an awful no-call on what should have been interference - as Corey checked Brent Sopol from behind while a deflected puck hung in the air - led to the Ducks' go-ahead goal. The Ducks would rub salt in the wound with an empty net goal in the final minute of the game. Corey Crawford saw his first action of the season in goal, giving up three goals and making 32 saves in the losing effort. The Blackhawks will try to recollect themselves in time to face the Kings tonight (9:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

The Blackhawks weren't in action on the ice last night but they found a way to make it to our television screens. Out in the Los Angeles area to play both the Kings and Ducks as part of a three-game road trip, the team made a cameo on The Tonight Show with Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, and Brent Seabrook showing off their Olympic hardware to Leno. more ›

The Blackhawks saw an opportunity to pick up another win pass them by as they fell in the closing seconds to Philadelphia 3-2 yesterday. After a scoreless first two periods, the Flyers struck first in the third to take a 1-0 lead but Kris Versteeg netted a power-play goal to tie the game up. Later in the third, Hossa, who had an assist on Versteeg's goal, scored himself to give the 'Hawks the 2-1 lead. But with just over two minutes left, the Flyers scored again and Chris Pronger slipped one just past Cristobal Huet in the final seconds to give the Flyers the victory. There's no rest, though, as the 'Hawks take to the ice early tomorrow for a brunchtime match-up against the Washington Caps (11:30 a.m., NBC). more ›

The Blackhawks got a much-needed 3-2 OT win over the L.A. Kings last night thanks to a pair of Patrick Sharp goals. The 'Hawks jumped out in front in the opening minutes of the first period on Sharp's first goal of the night. The Kings would rally for a pair of goals early in the second period to take a 2-1 lead but Kris Versteeg managed to put a second chance shot past L.A. goalie Jonathan Quick to tie the game at 2-2. A scoreless third gave way to overtime when the 'Hawks took advantage of an L.A. turnover and Sharp made a nifty move to beat Quick for the game-winner. The 'Hawks are now 3-2 since the Olympic break ended and are once more tied with San Jose atop the Western Conference. Next up is a Saturday afternoon affair in Philadelphia (12 p.m., WGN). more ›

The Blackhawks got out to a 2-0 lead over main rival the Detroit Red Wings but a huge five-goal second period from the Wings proved enough to down the 'Hawks by a 5-4 final. First period goals from Duncan Keith and Andrew Ladd gave the 'Hawks an early 2-0 lead. But it all fell apart in the second when Detroit lit Chicago - and Cristobal Huet - up with four goals in the first 10:30 of the period. Huet was pulled in favor of Antti Niemi, who gave up the fifth Detroit goal late in the second. The 'Hawks tried to fight back as Ladd added two more goals in the second - his first hat trick - but it wasn't enough as Detroit held on for the win. The loss means the 'Hawks relinquish first place in the Western Conference to San Jose; they'll try to bounce back Wednesday against the L.A. Kings (7:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

The Blackhawks put their foot on the gas in a relentless first period and cruised to a 6-3 victory over Vancouver in a physical game that saw plenty of shoving and swinging early. Andrew Ladd opened up the scoring less than four minutes into the game. Duncan Keith scored on a power play halfway through the first and was followed 30 seconds later by Troy Brouwer. The 'Hawks gave up a goal to Vancouver but then answered back as Kris Versteeg netted his 14th goal of the season and Jordan Hendry scored his first, giving the 'Hawks a 5-1 lead at the end of the first. The only other Blackhawks score would come from Marian Hossa late in the second. In net for the 'Hawks, Cristobal Huet made 20 saves, including going 7 for 7 on power plays. Meanwhile, the 'Hawks lit up gold meal winning goalie Roberto Luongo, scoring their first five goals on him and sending him packing in the second period. The win puts the 'Hawks in a first-place tie atop the Western Conference with San Jose; both teams have 91 points. Next up for the 'Hawks? The rival Red Wings come in for a nationally televised brunch-time match-up tomorrow (11:30 a.m., NBC). more ›

The Blackhawks finally shook off the rust and, after a sluggish start, got the fire going again, scorching the Edmonton Oilers 5-2. After a scoreless first period and falling behind 2-1 in the second period (Marian Hossa opened scoring with a goal), the 'Hawks scored four straight to secure their first post-Olympics victory. Dave Bolland took a nice pass from Hossa to tie the game at 2-2. The 'Hawks then took complete control in the third period as Niklas Hjalmarsson scored his second goal of the year, Dustin Byfuglien scored on a power-play, and the 'Hawks gold medal captain Jonathan Toews got in on the scoring, too. Speaking of the gold medal, the 'Hawks also honored their six Olympians in a pregame ceremony. And, hey, here comes Olympic host Vancouver to town for the 'Hawks next game Friday night (7:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

There may be four medal winners on the Blackhawks' roster, but there were no winners last night as the New York Islanders cruised to a 5-3 victory in the post-Olympics return to the ice for both teams. Brian Campbell opened the scoring to give the 'Hawks a 1-0 lead and Patrick Kane scored on a power-play to give them a 2-1 edge going into the first intermission. But that's where the 'Hawks' edge would end: the Isles scored four straight goals in the second period, enough to see Antti Niemi pulled in favor of Huet in goal. Dustin Byfuglien managed a late power-play goal in the third, but it was too little, too late. The 'Hawks hope their home return tonight against Edmonton will give them more of a bounce (7:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

The Bulls didn't stop wheeling and dealing once they shipped off John Salmons. Later in the day on Thursday, they traded away Tyrus Thomas to the Charlotte Bobcats for Flip Murray, Acie Law and a protected, future first-round draft choice. The first year for the pick would be 2012. But Coach Vinny insists the team will continue to focus on this season - with the Bulls tied for sixth in the Eastern Conference - and not on the big free agent market coming up this summer. The team has freed up around $18 million in an attempt to go after some of the big fish this summer, including LeBron James or Dwyane Wade. The Trib's K.C. Johnson takes his best guess at the Bulls' new depth chart. more ›

The Blackhawks head into the two-week Winter Olympic break on a winning note as they edged the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 in a shoot-out. The Blue Jackets jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first before Patrick Kane cut the deficit with a power-play goal. The 'Hawks scored three more times in the second as Bryan Bickell and Jake Dowell got rare goals and Patrick Sharp finished the four-goal run to give the 'Hawks a nice lead. But the Blue Jackets would score the final two goals of the game to force overtime. After a scoreless overtime period, the teams finished the three round shoot-out tied at 1-1 (Kane scoring the Blackhawks goal), so they went to extra rounds where Troy Brouwer scored the winning 'Hawks goal. At 41-15-5, the Blackhawks enter the two-week break in second place in the Western Conference, just two points behind San Jose (and having played one less game). They also ride a four-game winning streak into the break but they'll have to fight to keep their momentum which they'll need as they'll play 15 games in 31 days in March to help make up for the time off. Still, the 'Hawks are in a nice position to make a run as the top seed in the conference for the playoffs. more ›

It took extra hockey, but the Blackhawks manage to wrangle a 4-3 shoot-out win over the Dallas Stars. The entire game was a back-and-forth affair. Dallas opened the scoring about midway through the first period with a power-play goal only to have Patrick Kane answer with his 23rd goal of the season. A few minutes later, Dallas scored again and, again, Patrick Kane answered as his 24th goal of the season tied the game at 2-2 after the first. A scoreless second period gave way to a Troy Brouwer goal early in the third period but Dallas would respond with a late goal to force overtime with the score tied at 3-3. Kris Versteeg scored the winning (and only) goal in the shoot-out, which went five rounds. Antti Niemi got 24 saves in goal for the 'Hawks, including five in OT and two in the shoot-out. The 'Hawks now take their two-game win streak into the final two games before the Olympic break, starting at home Saturday night against Atlanta (7:30 p.m., WGN). more ›

Patrick Sharp scored his 17th goal of the season early in the first period and Jonathan Toews scored his 19th later in the period to give the 'Hawks a 2-0 lead. The lead held until late in the third period when St. Louis scored a power-play goal. Antti Niemi had a sterling night in goal, making 34 saves on 35 shots faced. The game also had some spicy moments, including a nice little tussle in the first period. The 'Hawks still trail the Sharks by four points for first place in the Western Conference. Next up is Dallas on Tuesday night (7 p.m., CSN). more ›

Blackhawks Fall To Phoenix more ›

Just like the Bulls, the Blackhawks had their United Center homecoming spoiled by losing as the St. Louis Blues got the best of the 'Hawks 3-2. Patrick Kane got the 'Hawks off to a good start and a 1-0 lead with a backhand goal a little over seven minutes in to the game. But a bad second period sunk the 'Hawks as the Blues scored three straight goals in an eight minute span to take a 3-1 lead heading into the third period. Marian Hossa cut into the lead with a short-handed goal early in the third, but the 'Hawks weren't able to get any closer and the Blues held on for the win. The 'Hawks nearly doubled the Blues up on shots, 34-19, but the Blues made theirs count; Huet got the nod in goal with an ill Antti Niemi sitting out a scheduled start. The Phoenix Coyotes come skating into town Friday as the 'Hawks look to bounce back into the win column (7:30 p.m., CSN+). more ›

The Blackhawks wrapped up their Disney-On-Ice road trip last night but found themselves having less success than their United Center counterparts as they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. The 'Canes took the lead with a goal in the waning seconds of the first period and Chicago answered with a Marian Hossa goal a few minutes into the second. Carolina answered late in the second to take a 2-1 edge and the 'Hawks once again tied the game up as Andrew Ladd scored a few minutes in to the third period. But the 'Canes scored twice in a 26 second span at the midway point of the third to take a two-goal lead they wouldn't relinquish. Huet got 20 saves but allowed all four goals while the 'Hawks out-shot the 'Canes 41-24 but still wound up with the loss. The 'Hawks still lead the division comfortably and are in second place in the Western Conference, just 3 points behind San Jose. The team also gets 4 of the next 6 games at home before the two-week Olympic break. Next up is a return to the UC to face St. Louis on Wednesday (7:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

We should have known it wouldn't be that easy. The 'Hawks, second place overall in the Western Conference, jumped out to a big lead early on the first place San Jose Sharks but would have to go to overtime to earn the 4-3 victory. Chicago scored a trio of goals in a 3:21 span early in the first period to take a big 3-0 lead: Dustin Byfuglien got his 100th NHL career point with the first goal of the game, Troy Brouwer followed up less than a minute later, and Andrew Ladd netted his 10th goal of the season to round out the attack. But San Jose proved why they're one of the NHL's elite teams and fought back, scoring before the end of the first, once more in the second, and getting the equalizer early in the third, and Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov stopped 32 straight shots after allowing the early goals. But, despite the comeback, it was the 'Hawks night as Brouwer scored his second goal of the game 1:37 into overtime to give Chicago the win. Huet had 34 saves overall in net for the 'Hawks who remain in second place, one point back of San Jose in the Western Conference. Last night's meeting was the last of the season between the two teams. The 'Hawks are now 5-2 on the eight-game-Disney-on-Ice roadtrip and wrap it up Saturday night in Carolina (6 p.m., WGN). more ›

The Blackhawks wasted no time last night in jumping on top of the last-place Oilers en route to a 4-2 victory. Jonathan Toews scored the game's first goal less than a minute in to give the 'Hawks an early 1-0 edge. After going the rest of the first scoreless, Chicago then exploded for three goals in an eight minute span in the second to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Troy Brouwer and Dustin Byfuglien both netted goals and Marian Hossa added a power-play goal. Edmonton added a goal late in the second and showed signs of life with a goal early in the third, but the 'Hawks locked down and held on for the two-goal win. Huet started in goal and stopped 22 of 24 shots he faced. Overall, the 'Hawks out-shot the Oilers 37-24. Next up? A huge tilt with the San Jose Sharks on Thursday (9:30 p.m., CSN). The 'Hawks trail the Sharks by just two points in the Western Conference standings. more ›

With Joakim Noah hurt, Brad Miller made the most of his start at center, scoring 25 points to lead the Bulls to a 104-97 victory over Houston. The Bulls have now won two straight road games, a great improvement for a team that's struggled mightily on the road all season. All five Bulls starters scored in double-figures including 20 from Derrick Rose and a 16-14 from Taj Gibson as the team shot over 50 percent from the floor for another night. The Bulls hope their trip to Texas continues on a winning note as they take on the Spurs tomorrow night (7:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

The Blackhawks got back in the win column with a 3-1 victory over struggling Calgary. After a scoreless first, the 'Hawks jumped on top with a Patrick Kane power play goal midway through the second, Kane's 21st goal of the season. Calgary took advantage of their own power play opportunity late in the second to tie the game at 1-1. But the 'Hawks came back in the third with a Ben Eager goal early on to give the 'Hawks the lead for good. An empty net goal from Duncan Keith in the final minute extended the game out of reach. Antti Niemi made good on his nod to start in goal for the 'Hawks, stopping 19 of 20 shots he faced. The 'Hawks hope to start a new winning streak Saturday night when they head to Vancouver (9 p.m., CSN). more ›

Both teams rode winning streaks into last night's game, but Ottawa skated out the winner after ousting the Blackhawks 4-1. The Sens took a 2-0 lead in the first but Marian Hossa scored his 13th goal of the season - a short-handed goal just over six minutes in to the second period - to cut that lead in half. But Ottawa was too much, scoring another goal in the second and one more for good measure in the third to cruise to the victory even as the 'Hawks out-shot them 30-18. Huet allowed all four goals and grabbed 14 saves in net for Chicago. The 'Hawks try to bounce back tomorrow night in Calgary (8:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

The 'Hawks skated into Detroit Sunday morning and skated out with their third-straight win in a 4-3 shootout victory. The 'Hawks got off to a fast start, opening up a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to a Troy Brouwer goal and a Patrick Kane power play goal. Detroit answered with a goal before the first intermission to cut the lead to 2-1 and continued into the second by tying the game 2-2. Patrick Sharp gave the 'Hawks the lead again midway through the second period but Detroit eventually evened up the game at 3-3 midway through the third. Regulation ended at 3-3 and the overtime flew by at a furious pace with the score remaining at 3-3. In the shootout, Toews and Hossa both scored for the 'Hawks and Sharp put away the game-winner. The game also featured a rare stat for this year's 'Hawks: they were actually outshot by their opponent. Antti Niemi was sharp in goal with 35 saves on 38 shots faced plus an additional save in the shootout. At 34-11-4, the 'Hawks have the best record in the NHL and the three-game winning streak will give them needed momentum as, starting tomorrow night, they play six games in twelve days, all on the road. The trip continues tomorrow night in Ottawa (6:30 p.m., CSN). more ›
