Residents of the NFC North, one of the People We Just Wish Would Go Away is back. Even the non-Bears fans among us have circled November 29 and December 28 on our calendars.

The Beijing Olympics are over, which means that Jay Mariotti has returned Stateside after being his verbose self for two weeks in mainland China. The summation of Mariotti's final Beijing-datelined column? "China is creepy!" It's worth noting that Mariotti filed the column just as he was leaving China on a jet plane and free from being detained for "re-education" by authorities.
Brett Favre is no longer a member of the Green Bay Packers. Following an increasingly hostile situation created by his desire to come out of retirement while the team had moved on with Aaron Rodgers, the Packers finally traded the future Hall of Famer to the New York Jets late last night.
Coach Lovie Smith says not to read anything into it, but Kyle Orton will start at quarterback for the Bears when they host the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field tomorrow evening.
Snack foods that sound like sex acts. Oh, cheese nips.
Brett Favre is retiring after 17 seasons, 16 with the Packers. He says he's too mentally tired to return, but that physically, he's fine, which is why discussions of his possible non-retirement abound. [ESPN, Trib]
When Lovie Smith came to Chicago, he guaranteed victories over the Green Bay Packers. And four years into his tenure as Bears head coach, Lovie has lived up to his promise — at least at Lambeau Field. Sunday night, he took his 1-3 Bears into Green Bay to face the 4-0 Packers and came away with the 27-20 win. The Packers seemingly dominated the first half, racking up 341 yards of offense. Two key forced...
We can understand if the Bears were more focused on their Christmas plans than their game against the lowly Lions. Especially since there was nothing to play for, with a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs locked up already. But we figured they'd still have little difficulty beating the Lions. While they did end up winning the game 26-21, they had to work a little harder than expected. The Bears took...
Well, that sure looked easy! Opening up at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the Bears made it perfectly clear who controls the NFC North this year, shutting out the Packers 26-0. This was the first time in Brett Favre's career that the Packers had been held scoreless. The Bears put together a complete effort, winning this game because of their offense, defense and special teams. Rex Grossman looked like a real QB, compiling a 98.6...
The Bears open their 2006 season on Sunday against the Packers up in Green Bay. What a way to kick the season off! While the Bears look to figure into the playoff picture, the Packers are focusing on the Brett Favre farewell (maybe) tour. The Bears should open with a key road victory against a division opponent, but in these big rivalries, one never knows. So just how good are the Bears this year? That's...
The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. Is it really a Bears-Packers...
While we fear certain members of the staff might be hiding giant triangular hunks of yellow foam in their closets, Chicagoist is getting excited for Sunday's Bears - Packers game. The Bears enter the game riding a 7-game winning streak and an 8-3 record. The Packers limp in at 2-9. So it should be a Bears romp, right?
It's been too long, friends! But Overheard is back in action, thanks to so many juicy submissions. Keep the hotness coming this-a-way; as always, you can reach us at overheard at chicagoist dot com. This week: the wheels on the biz-us, furry muffs, drag queens and murders—in other words, the Christmas season has started in earnest.
Are you ready for some Bears football? Chicagoist sure is! The preseason is over, the roster is set and the Bears head into 2005 full of optimism but with a rookie QB leading the offense. Will they see an improvement over last year's woeful 5-11 campaign? Or will they continue to languish at the bottom of the NFL standing? With the Bears season starting on Sunday, we thought we'd take a look at what's in...
Another painful Bears season wrapped up Sunday, with the Packers avenging their earlier loss 31-14. In the rout, the Packers tied a team record with 9 sacks. And the Packers, having already locked up the NFC North title, mostly played their backups. Packers QB Brett Favre sat after the Pack took a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. No matter, they still killed the Bears.
Running back Thomas Jones ran for 152 yards, the defense intercepted Brett Favre twice and Brian Urlacher forced a fumble that was run back 95 yards by Mike Brown for a TD.
