Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Goose Island Maibock

Went to Goose Island Clybourn last night for the Swan Creek Farm Auction-ending celebration; the online auction brought in over $14,000. All of the monies raised from the various benefits wil go a long way toward helping Swan Creek's George Rasmussen get a new truck for deliveries.

Since Goose Island renewed the lease on its Clybourn brewpub in December, there's been a sense of excitement around the premises. While the emphasis on the brewing has changed from hoppy to sour, the food menu at Goose Island is undergoing an even more radical transformation under the guidance of new Executive Chef John Manion (ex-Mas and Old Oak Tap). Goose Island founder John Hall, in a press release, summed it up simply: "I could not be happier."

And it is true: both dailies are reporting that Goose Island will close down its flagship brewpub on Clybourn by the end of the year, after losing its lease.

For some people, the ultimate gift is something techy, like a Wii, an iPhone, or a GPS device. For us, it's a growler of beer, which we received over the holidays. The beer inside, "312." was nothing special. the growler, however, was refillable.
