Lovie Smith thinks we should "think about the (Bears) 1-0 record going into 2012." Lovie can shove that 1-0 record where the sun doesn't shine.
Let the Blame Game Begin: Bears Close Out Season at 8-8
Five Bears Make Pro Bowl
Linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs, running back Matt Forte, cornerback Charles Tillman and special teams standout Corey Graham were selected to the team.
Fan of Urlacher? There's an App for That
We'll slip on our "54" jerseys. We'll cheer on his interceptions and tackles, especially when he pounds Michael Vick into the ground. But do we also want him in your pocket at all times, on our iPhones?
Pack Attack Bears 27-17
After two lackluster offensive performances, Mike Martz's "Greatest Show on Turf" seems as much a relic of the late 90's as Netscape.
Morning Box Score: Bears Mauled by Saints 30-13
Remember when the Bears clobbered the Falcons 30-12 a week ago? Good times. Yesterday's visit to the Superdome? Not so much.
Urlacher's Mother Passes Away
Lavoyda Lenard, the 52-year-old mother of Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, died unexpectedly this morning.
Bears Make 30-12 Opening Statement
While the Bears passed their first test with flying colors, the challenges don't stop.
Bears Fall Short in NFC Championship
The Bears lost Jay Cutler to injury and, while a bit of magic from their third string quarterback provided a bit of excitement late in the game, the Bears came up short.
Four Bears Named to Pro Bowl; Vikings Give Bears First-Round Playoff Bye
Holiday gifts are still coming the Bears way, courtesy of their division rivals in Minnesota. The Vikings upset Philadelphia 24-14 last night, guaranteeing the Bears the second seed in the NFC and a first-round playoff bye. The Bears still have a chance at the top seed in the conference, but they're going to have to rely on losses Sunday to Atlanta and New Orleans. The defensing champion Saints face a tough challenge against Tampa Bay, but the Falcons match up against doormat Carolina.
No Puny Hits In Football. Urlacher Smash!!
Taking time away from responding to media questions in monosyllables and grunts, Urlacher took the time to string together actual sentences to express his displeasure with the news.
Extra, Extra
- The State has removed and limited information about doctors available online.
- The federal government has fined Sea World over the death of Dawn Brancheau, a trainer at the Orlando location earlier this year; Brancheau was a native of Northwest Indiana.
- An overnight traffic accident killed a taxi driver and left two others hurt.
Glenn Beck, Brian Urlacher, and Neo-Nazis. Huh? (UPDATED)
The Root came out with a list of the Blackest White Folks we Know, and in addition to notable crackers like Bill Clinton, John Mayer and Bill Maher, racial unity specialist Glenn Beck was listed on it due to his recent lesson on black Founding Fathers.
The Morning After: Pair Of Bears Honored As Knox Makes Pro Bowl Debut
Last night's NFL Pro Bowl was an experiment of sorts, being the first time in 30 years the game had been held outside of Hawaii and the first time it was held the weekend before the Super Bowl. The game also boasted its highest attendance in 50 years - over 70,000 - even though rain and cool temps chased away many fans by the second half of the AFC's 41-34 win. It also marked the Pro Bowl debut for the Bears' rookie wide receiver Johnny Knox. Knox was officially listed on the roster as a kick returner, filling in for one of the many originally slated starters (almost 40 percent) who bowed out of the league's all-star game. While he didn't have any catches despite being thrown to twice, Knox had a solid appearance as a kick returner, returning four kicks for 103 yards, including a 30 yard return. Not a bad debut at all.
Love For Fast Eddie Included Urlacher, Tank
Documents released this week show some prominent Bears players among those showing love for Edward "Fast Eddie" Vrdolyak, the former aldermen convicted of real estate shenanigans and given a sentence that was, essentially, a slap on the wrist. Over 50 letters in support of Vrodlyak were sent to U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur, asking for a lenient sentence. Among those letters, according to the Tribune, were one former and one current Chicago Bear: Tank Johnson and Brian Urlacher, respectively. The documents were made public even as government prosecutors have appealed the light sentence ($50,000 fine, 5 years probation, 2,500 hours of community service).
Life Without Brian
Now that star linebacker Brian Urlacher is out for the season, the Bears are moving quick to fill that hole. While Hunter Hillenmeyer will be the team's middle linebacker for now, yesterday the Bears signed linebacker Tim Shaw, who played in a few games for Jacksonville last year and for Carolina before that. As for the negotiations with veteran Derrick Brooks, those have been put on hold in favor of the younger Shaw. The status of another injured Bears linebacker, Pisa Tinoisamoa, is still uncertain.
Urlacher Done For Season?
It seems Brian Urlacher's injury was much more serious than originally thought and the Bears' defense has been dealt a blow. Urlacher text messaged the Trib earlier today that his "season is over.'' While the team has made no official announcement, Coach Lovie Smith will most likely address the issue later today at his afternoon press conference.
Morning Box Score: Bears Fall to Packers
As if the the debut of supposed franchise "savior" Jay Cutler wasn't enough, playing a nationally televised Sunday night game and playing against the arch rival Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field meant we Bears fans were revved up for Week 1. By the end of the night, however, our excitement and optimism had turned to dejection as the Packers outlasted the Bears 21-15 in an ugly opener. That the Bears even had any chance to win the game was a bit of a miracle, but they actually took a 15-13 lead with less than three minutes to play. Unfortunately, it was one of those nights where if anything could go wrong, it did.
Bourbonnais Bound: Bears Open Training Camp
Even with both baseball teams still in the playoff hunt, we're still excited by the first Bears practice, because that means that football season returns soon. Kicking off Training Camp in Bourbonnais today, the players will take the field at Olivet Nazarene University for the first time at 3pm.
Urlacher Baby Mama Runs Afoul of Lord of the Dance, Again
Tyna Robertson mother to Brian Urlacher's son Kennedy and, well, let's be generous and not call her a "gold digger" received a rude awakening this morning. Robertson, who likes to bring Urlacher to court on a whim, was arrested this morning by Will County Sheriff's deputies in her Burr Ridge home on contempt of court charges stemming from a 2007 judgment against her brought on by "Lord of the Dance" creator/choreographer Michael Flatley.
Urlacher: Baby Mama "Unreasonable"
"He did get his nails painted. Yes. [My daughters] painted his nails. So what? His sisters were painting their nails, so he was like, 'I want to paint my nails.' He's 3 years old. Who cares?more ›
Urlacher Baby Mama Drama Continues
The Joliet Herald-News reports this morning that Brian Urlacher's baby mama, Tyra Robertson, has filed a claim in Will County court that states that Urlacher's son, Kennedy, has taken to wearing pink diapers and wearing blue nail polish on his toes. We're not sure exactly where in the penal code this counts as child abuse, but it gets better - Robertson seems to believe that this is reason enough to keep Brian from seeing his kid. Can someone get Jeffrey Leving on the phone? Brian needs some Father's Rights representation, stat.
Morning Box Score: Bears Slaughter Rams
Coming off last week's ugly loss in Green Bay, the Bears were looking for an opportunity to move forward in their quest to outlast their rivals and win the NFC North. Working in the Bears favor more than anything, perhaps, is their remaining schedule -- starting with Sunday's match-up against the St. Louis Rams. The Bears took care of business and headed north of .500 with a definitive 27-3 victory.
Bears Head to Bourbonnais
] just in time to see the Bears off as they head downstate to Bourbonnais, where the team will report for the start of training camp today. Unlike last season when the Bears headed into camp as defending NFC champs, this year's team is under the microscope as fans look for clues about whether or not we can be optimistic about the 2008 squad. There a lot of unanswered questions that we hope can be answered before taking the field on September 7.
Urlacher, Bears Reach Deal
Brian Urlacher and the Bears have finally agreed on a new contract.
Urlacher Wants New Deal
Last off-season, the Bears sparred with linebacker Lance Briggs over contract issues. Despite plenty of nastiness and threats of holding out, Briggs showed up at training camp, had a good season and then ended up signing a multi-year contract to remain with the Bears for the foreseeable future. Now, after Briggs and a number of other Bears players received contract extensions, Brian Urlacher, the face of the franchise, would like a raise.
Guess Who's Back?
Chicagoist hopes that IDOT has placed their orders for reinforced guard rails and extra sign posts because Lance Briggs will be remaining with the Bears after signing a 6-year, $36 million deal over the weekend.
Urlacher's Neck A Pain To Bears
There are few words we come across - at least within the local sports pages - that concern us more than "Brian Urlacher" and "neck surgery" in the same sentence. Yet that's what greeted us in bold print in Friday's papers. Following a routine post-season physical, a problem in Urlacher's lower neck that affected the curve of his cervical spine required "minor" surgery to correct. Tribune columnist Rick Morrissey wondered, "[I]s there such a thing as a routine surgery for someone whose job revolves around catapulting himself head first into running backs and quarterbacks?"
Four Bears to Pro Bowl
Too bad Brian Urlacher's monster game on Monday night came too late in the season for it to impact Pro Bowl voting by coaches and players. While he won the fans' vote, the Bears' middle linebacker was not selected to February's Pro Bowl for only the second time in his career — and the first in which he played the whole year.
Bears Lose Adrian Peterson Bowl
One Adrian Peterson ran for 78 yards on 20 carries while scoring two touchdowns. The other Adrian Peterson ran for 26 on 9 carries. You can probably guess which AP belongs to the Bears.
