Senate Still Dragging Its Feet On Low Power FM
Right around a year ago, we were pretty excited when the House passed the Local Community Radio Act, a bill that would open up the radio waves to many different low power radio stations like our good friends at CHIRP. The House bill and its Senate companion (S.592) enjoy plenty of bipartisan support, including John McCain, Hillary Clinton, President Obama and Ron Paul. In fact, it's been suggested that LPFM could help heal our partisan wounds, since support for the legislation brought the folks like the Christian Coalition, Free Press and Reason Magazine to the same table.
GQ Names Hawk Harrelson Worst Announcer In Baseball
GQ released their list of five best and five worst broadcast teams in baseball, and it probably comes at little surprise that White Sox broadcaster Hawk Harrelson ushered his pairing with Steve Stone into the #1 spot for worst broadcast booth. In their summary, which lets partner Stone off the hook entirely, Hawk is taken to task for his unabashed homerism as well as his "folksy" Hawkisms. We agree that listening to Harrelson announce our team's games is insufferable. We don't know which phrase of Hawk's we hate more: "He gone!," "Hang wuf 'em" or "Dagnambit!" They all pretty much suck.
Bulls to Honor "Red" Kerr
We'd think that after a seven-game road trip, the Bulls couldn't wait to see their home whites when they return to the United Center tonight to host the Detroit Pistons. Instead, they'll sport their road reds one more time. That's because tonight, the Bulls are honoring Johnny "Red" Kerr for his 35 years of service with the Bulls.
Wednesday Afternoon Diversion: Mike Adamle Gets Tongue-Tied
NBC 5 sportscaster Mike Adamle has led a charmed life in front of the camera. His good looks and Northwestern pedigree have granted him the opportunity to work at ABC 7, CBS 2 and NBC 5 as lead sportscaster. For a generation, he's also known as the host of the original "American Gladiators." Give Adamle a script and time to prepare, he's a solid broadcaster.
