For a simple brunch in Lincoln Square with both sweet and spicy dishes, Cinnamon Café on Lawrence is your best bet.

First Look: Kingsbury Street Cafe
"Why didn't I know about that?!" This is a likely reaction to the new brunch spot Kingsbury Street Cafe. Tucked away by the Whole Foods in Lincoln Park, this place had the softest of openings.
Longman & Eagle: For Bloody Mary Lovers
Fans of tomato-based alcoholic beverages rejoice: Longman & Eagle's killer brunch has a lot to do with these two words: Bloody. Mary. Here at Chicagoist we are always on the lookout for drinks that are acceptable at any time of day, and after hearing lots of buzz about the Longman & Eagle Bloody Mary, we had to stop in and see what it was all about. Longman & Eagle's Bloody Mary does the trick on a Saturday or Sunday morning with your L&E brunch or lunch. If you think you're a Bloody Mary fan, and you're in Chicago, this one is a must-try.
City Provisions Announces Brunch, We Rejoice
Last week, City Provisions (our favorite charcuterie maker and all-around great local food emporium) announced that they would start serving brunch. CP already makes its own bacon, corned beef, pates and sandwiches, and starting this Sunday, June 26th, City Provisions will be serving an expanded menu from 10-2. The menu, which looks drool-worthy, will include latkes, whiskey-glazed ham, fresh biscuits and donuts, duck fat home fries and house-cured salmon.
Last-Minute Father's Day Plans - No Reservations, No Problem
- Blue Sky Bakery, which we profiled last year, is launching brunch just in time for Father's Day. It's BYOB, and plenty of tickets (which you need to buy in advance) are still available. The menu will feature local produce and cheese, in mouth-watering combinations. Start with an assortment of pastries (try the blueberry cheesecake muffins) and move onto baked French toast with local raspberries. Fruit salad, coffee and juices are also included, and they have OJ and bloody mary mix on hand if you bring some booze. The whole thing is only $17 per person ($12 for kids). Can't be beat. Purchase tickets for either 11 AM or 2 PM.
Brunch with the Bunny - A Last-Minute Easter Round-Up
Easter is fast approaching and you don't have reservations yet. Admit it, you forgot - its nothing to be ashamed of! Well, don't worry. Here's a round-up of some great Easter spots, all of which still have availability as of right now. As always, call to confirm.
A Taste of Heaven Just Might Be
While so many restaurants come and go, there are some neighborhood eateries that never seem to go out of style. Whether it is a popular menu of quality food or familiar and friendly faces in the seats and behind the counter, consistency and innovation are the keys to survival. Serving patrons since 1994, Andersonville’s A Taste of Heaven is a survivor. Good food, friendly staff, and a loyal following have made it a popular neighborhood destination and one of the gems of North Clark Street.
Drink in the Season! Pajama Brunch at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba
We don't usually think of the esteemed Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba as a restaurant to stumble into in our pajamas. Actually, since our college dining hall, we haven't thought of ANY restaurant as someplace to stumble into in our pajamas. But once a year, on New Year's Day, such behavior is more than a tolerated consequence of publican excess; it is encouraged. At Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba, the 7th annual Pajama Brunch starts at 10 AM on January 1, 2011. Make it your first meal of the new year.
Fresh & Local: M. Henrietta's Recipe for Success
The old adage says that two heads are sometimes better than one. Can the same be said about restaurants? When the owners of M. Henrietta set out to replicate the success of their popular flagship M. Henry by opening a sister restaurant - appropriately named M. Henrietta - they were tempting diners and fate. If the long wait list for Sunday brunch is any indication, culinary lightning can strike twice.
Class In Session - Paella Cooking Class at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba
When you break it down, Paella is all about the ingredients -- the rice must be bomba or Valencia rice, the pan must be steel and you must use those expensive threads of Saffron that gives the dish its gorgeous gold color and its unique but inviting aroma. To learn more about this quintessential Spanish dish, we visited Cafe Ba Ba Reeba for a Paella cooking class that gave us a few great tips and a great meal. BaBaReeba has been serving up tapas in Chicago for 25 years, and this class was a perfect example of why they've been so successful.
Food Pr0n: Brunch at The Southern
We spent Sunday marveling at the sudden heat and eating, of course. To kick it off, the Food and Drink Writers of Chicagoist met up with our fearless leaders (F&D jefe Sudo and Jefe jefe Gilmer) at The Southern before the Blackhawks kicked some Shark tail. Enjoy some pictures from our brunch at The Southern - included in each caption is the menu description and price.
Do This: Divalicious Brunch at Kit Kat Lounge
What could go together better than a sultry drag queen and a spicy bloody mary? The Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club is now offering a "Divalicious Brunch" to round out their packed weekly lineup of activities and events. Guests can either order off the regular brunch menu or choose from a smaller prix fixe menu for $25, which includes appetizer, entree and bottomless mimosas or bloody martinis. Try their Lobster club, with lobster, avocado, applewood bacon and tarragon mayo! Madame X, their divine diva, rules the room with classic, sophisticated tunes which will soothe your hangover-ravaged brain - no club music for this brunch. Their patio opens soon and, on May 30th, Marilyn Monroe's birthday brunch will have Madame X playing the great lady herself. Check it out from 11-3 on Sundays at 3700 N. Halsted.
Review: Spectacular Brunch Deal at Mercat a la Planxa
Last Sunday, we were bowled over by the best brunch deal we've encountered in ages. Mercat a la Planxa is running a promotion called "Sunday Funday" (we know, it's a horrible name) which accomplishes all of the goals of a great brunch: amazing food, social dining, lots of booze and a low low price. We've mentioned our love of Mercat in the past, but the restaurant's relatively high prices and recent popularity (thanks in part to Chef Jose Garces appearance on Iron Chef) may have deterred some visitors. If so, this is your chance.
One Great Dish: Chicken and Biscuits at Nana
Chuck proves you don't need Chick-Fil-A to get a delicious Chicken & Biscuit meal in Chicago
Review - Brunch at Cafe Selmarie
We must have walked past Café Selmarie 100 times during trips to Lincoln Square. Without fail, we always looked in, said "oh, isn't that pretty. We must go to eat there sometime," and walked on by, intent on our business. Gosh, do we feel stupid now. We've missed out on years of tasty food!
Chicagoist's Big-Ass Roundup to Dining on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day
It's getting close to New Year's Eve. There are some of you reading who want to dine out on one of the busiest party nights of the year, but are waiting until the last minute to reserve a table. Normally we post a few options for you. This year, however, we may have gone overboard.
Opening: Nana
We've been looking forward to seeing Nana (3267 S. Halsted St., 312 929 2486), an organic breakfast/brunch spot in Bridgeport by Omar and Christian Solis, whose father Jose owns nearby Tacos Erendira, open for months. Chicago Brunch Blog reports that they're finally taking the paper off the windows and are slated to open 6 a.m. Monday with a menu including buckwheat pancakes with banana and mulled hemp seeds, liege (a leavened batter with beads of pearl sugar that burst and caramelize in the waffle iron) and the "Nanadict:" a pupusa topped with crumbled chorizo, poached eggs and poblano sauce. Coupled with the packed houses at HAN 202 nightly and Nightwood, my backyard could be on the cusp of destination dining. [via Grub Street Chicago]
Brunch At Nightwood: Needs Some Work
No sooner had the server placed the dish on our table yesterday than we were looking for said server to return the dish to the kitchen. By then he was "in the weeds." After a couple minutes we finally got the attention of one of the hostesses, who summoned a front-of-house manager to the table. "What's wrong with the dish?" she asked. Our friend simply pointed to the undercooked chicken on the plate.
Quick Bites: Last-Minute Mother's Day Brunch and Dinner Round-Up Edition
We've been kind of remiss with both "Quick Bites" and the "Friday Buffet" installments recently. We're hoping to rectify one of those today. Instead of the standard "QB" format, today we're listing some last-minute ideas to prevent Mom from reminding you that she brought you into this world and can also take you out of it.
Do This: Brunch With Gale Gand At The Bristol
What would you do to have brunch with Gale Gand? Give up your firstborn? Eat balut? Bail a relative of Todd Stroger's out of jail?
Easter Buffet Roundup
Today marks the start of Passover, which means Easter is right around the corner. Easter is also one of the most popular brunch days of the year, if only to see a parade of silly hats.
Chicagoist Food Pr0n: Brunch at the Publican
Alright, maybe we did tweet some of it ourselves, but bunch at the Publican lived up to the short-notice hype yesterday. Today we're pleased to present photos of some of the dishes on the menu, captured in their fresh-from-the-kitchen glory by none other than Rachelle "Chicagoist Prime" Bowden.
Publican Tweets Its First Brunch
Either this is a genius move or a case of Twitter going meta, but the Publican started serving brunch today and both Paul Kahan and his publicist Ellen Malloy have been twittering the entire service. This has only served to make us more hungry as out 1 p.m. brunch time nears.
Review: SushiSamba Brunch (is the best deal in town)
A few weeks back in the Friday Buffet, Laura posted a notice about a special that SushiSamba Rio was running for brunch. We’d been there a couple of years ago, but that was for a sushi and booze-laden lunch. A touch skeptical about their brunching abilities, we braved the blizzard and ventured north this past Sunday.
Do This: Latke Battle and Brunch at Spertus Institute
One man's potato pancake is another man's latke. Since it is Hanukkah season, love us some latkes (for a goyim), and know we aren't alone, this Sunday latke cookoff and brunch at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies is right up our alley. Spertus is currently accepting latke recipes (e-mail yours here, if you're interested) with an explanation why yours is the best. Spertus is selecting their favorites for a head-to-head cookoff with Laura Frankel, Executive Chef of the Institute's Wolfgang Puck café, and judged by Ina Pinkney and comedian Aaron Freeman.
The Friday Buffet
We've got a Taste of Chicago preview for you later. In the meantime, here are some things around town to check out in the coming days.
Juicy Wine Company's Weekend Brunch A Winner For Your Pocketbook
The seeds for a recent visit to Juicy Wine Company for brunch started with a spirited discussion over where to find a good bloody mary. Every item on Juicy's brunch menu, served Saturday and Sunday - is $5 and we wondered if we would be served a quality bloody mary for the price.
