Since our hipster cred went down the drain last night when we saw The Police at Wrigley, we decided to just join the ranks of our parents and give up. The on-sale listings from Ticketmaster confirmed this for us when all we found were shows at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora. Shows that would have excited us about forty years ago, but who's to say grandpa and grandma don't deserve a great night out. The...

Before we start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day or get too far in the zone on the NCAA action, there are a few shows going on sale that we would like to talk about.

This week there isn’t much out there to go on a spending spree and use up that Ticketmaster gift card we received for Christmas. If it’s necessary for us to buy tickets before we watch Iowa get their asses handed to them by Texas on Saturday afternoon at the Alamo Bowl, these are a couple shows that piqued our interest.

Chicagoist is a big fan of Richard Branson. He's the type of tycoon we would want to be if some obscure rich uncle became wormfood and left us a couple of billion dollars. He's been a busy guy, with his fingers in a lot of businesses, including entertainment, retail, and transportation. We're particularly a fan of his Virgin Galactic idea and we can't wait to buy tickets on a suborbital flight. We don't care where we'd go - we'd be there for just for the trip

Where can we spend, spend, spend that paycheck? Perhaps a few of these shows going on sale this weekend will empty out that wallet. Well, the presale is happening today at 10:00 a.m. for Wilco. Don’t be a “turkey” and miss out on this, or Jeff Tweedy just might punch you in the face. Wilco will be at the Auditorium Theatre once again for a pair of shows during the biggest party weekend of the...

We were gonna start these Decent Days & Nights off Sunday with some dancing at Scissor Sisters, but instead we got our fix of "Desperate Housewives." We guess that everyone is trying to hit the Midwest before the snow starts flying, which may not be that far away, because there are an insane number of great shows happening this week. This week offers something for our ever-changing moods. On Monday, we may feel like being...

As people throughout the city scramble to enjoy the waning moments of prime tanning and outdoor drinking weather, here are some other festivals and events around the city for you to check out: - The Windy City Wine Festival gears up for another weekend of oenophilia...

Yesterday, we learned that Lollapalooza sold 3,000 tickets without even announcing a single band. Today, not to be outdone, Pitchfork announced six of their thirty-six slated acts for the Pitchfork Media Festival. Here are the six acts that are supposed to get us all excited and ready to buy tickets on Monday. That's right - in three days these one- and two-day passes go on sale. No word yet on exact sale time, but we know the price this year will be $20 for the one-day pass and a mere $30 for the two-day pass.

Today would be a good time to go make friends with your IT guys and see if they've got any unused computers they'll let you set up for a day, because Cubs single game tickets go on sale tomorrow.

Tickets for the Chicago Humanities Festival go on sale to the general public today. The city's annual celebration of culture, literature, art, and social sciences runs from October 29 to November 13, with speakers and performances all over the city. This year's festival theme is "Home and Away"; presenters will address the role that place serves in the creation of identity and belonging. There is also an accompanying children's festival featuring interactive programs in theater,...

In contrast to the lack of coverage in the run-up to Intonation, Lollapalooza sees to be everywhere. Chicago Innerview devoted half of their monthly issue to it, the Red Eye (a co-sponsor of the fest) is running a five-day countdown with capsule summaries of every band along with interviews, rock critics Jim Derogatis and Greg Kot have both weighed in and even if you’re not going, you probably have a mild interest in the...

Sick and tired of waiting in line behind that diviner at the corner store? The one convinced that one of these days they'll draw his dog's birthday in the lottery and he'll finally "get out of this shit-hole"? He always enters the store with a list of numbers written on a soiled napkin. Then he places his order and pulls out his wallet, but wait, a premonition. "Shhh! Jesus is sayin' somethin'. OK, gimme three,...

Chicagoist was chatting it up with the clerk in our local video store last Saturday (Netflix is fine if you’re a movie junkie but sometimes you need a certain kind of fix RIGHT NOW) when a customer walked in and said he wanted a story that was similar to The Terminal. We tried to recommend Before Sunrise—Richard Linklater’s dictionary definition of a sleeper hit about two people who meet, fall in love, and talk a lot during a brief encounter on a Vienna-bound train—but after a few moments of listening to us with glazed eyes the customer turned to the clerk and said “yeah something like that only more fun.” Burn! What more could you ask for? You wanted a story of love, funny accents, and chance meetings against a backdrop of mass transit and that’s what we gave you! Go rent Wimbledon next time and see how much fun that isn’t.

Mardi Gras is coming up, believe it or not, and Chicagoist is planning on celebrating it with a three-hour open bar at Fizz on February 5th with the Emergency Fund - you can buy tickets online today for $30, or at the door for $35. Chicagoist is a proud supporter of Emergency Fund.

John Mellencamp and Babyface are on a two-week Vote for Change tour right now trying to raise funds for Kerry in swing states. They were supposed to go to Miami to play on Friday but after their concert in Milwaukee last night they decided to skip the heat and stay in the area to play a Chicago concert on Saturday. We don't know about you, but with the temperature in the 40's this morning, we'd be headed to Miami in a heartbeat. Besides that, IL isn't even really a swing state.

Despite the front page of Ticketmaster proclaiming "Oh yeah, it's ON!", Lollapalooza is definately OFF. Due to poor ticket sales the entire music festival tour has been cancelled. Chicagoist remembers back in the early 90's when this festival actually had credit and was the hottest ticket in town! Now concert promoters are saying that faced with several million dollars of losses they were forced to pull the tour. Cofounder Perry Farrall (who we still love even if the only time we've seen him recently is behind Dave Navarro in his show with Carmen Electra) says he's heartbroken.

Out at CHS, organized by the Chicago Historical Society, is spending the year exploring the LGBT past by hosting a series of events that celebrate the illustrious history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people in Chicago and throughout the country.
