We haven’t been thrilled with the recent touring productions in Chicago. Even though a lot of pre-Broadway engagements and national tours come through the Windy City, this year didn’t work out so well. However, In the Heights makes up for everything negative we said before. Almost. (We’re still not sure about The 101 Dalmatians Musical.)

Shtick and Innuendo Take Over Transylvania
Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein is too funny. There are too many overused jokes, too many corny gags, and too much suggestive language. Watching the musical at the Cadillac Palace Theatre is like overdosing on Halloween candy. Sure it’s enjoyable and delicious, but in the end, you’ve consumed nothing substantial and you feel a little sick.
CATS Has Lived Too Many Lives
Despite what you may think, we don’t set out to be cruel. But, in the case of Cats, showing this weekend at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, rather than pointlessly ridiculing spandex clad actors who are clearly happy to have a job, we thought we would put this famously bad musical in perspective.
Chicago Theatre: Now With MSG
The Chicago Theatre is being sold to Madison Square Garden. At least that's what Chris Jones is saying. According to the article, Madison Square Garden Entertainment has agreed to purchase the downtown landmark and is just waiting for a few formalities — like the City signing off on the sale — before closing the deal. MSGE owns — duh — Madison Square Garden, plus Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theater in NY. It's...
Saucy Puppets to Sing in Chicago
The saucy singing puppets of the Tony Award-Winning Avenue Q will finally be coming to Chicago, but not for a long run. And it’s going to be a while before they call Chicago home. As part of their national tour, which began this July, the puppets will spend two weeks from May 27 to June 7, 2008 at Cadillac Palace Theatre as part of the Broadway in Chicago series. Inspired by Sesame Street, the show’s...
700 Sundays, 1 Marvelous Headache
Chicagoist learned this week that Billy Crystal’s mega-hit Broadway show 700 Sundays is slated for a brief run (Nov. 8-20) at the Loop’s Cadillac Palace Theatre.
Bittersweet Charity
Critical reception of her may have been mixed, but you’ve gotta admit Christina Applegate is one game girl: the actress managed to Fosse her way through 20 minutes of Friday night’s show on a broken foot before her understudy stepped in.
