Most of the time we like to complain about how nothing gets done in Chicago unless the right wheels are greased, but this time we agree with the greasing that’s going on. We get to keep Lollapalooza for five more years, if the Chicago Park District votes to approve the deal on Wednesday. We know they’ll do the right thing. Wink. Wink. Our gift was delivered, right? Over the last two years, the Park District...

Yesterday Chicagoist heard that Perry Farrell would be announcing more bands to the Lollapalooza line-up while delivering a big check to Parkways. We went down to Washington Park to be present for this press conference mainly because we wanted to get the names of those new bands out there faster than anyone else, but no such announcement was made. We did, however, learn a great deal about how the "cutting edge" Lollapalooza audience is allowing the Chicago Park District to go forward with improvements that wouldn't have been realized without our hard-earned music dollar fees.

Just when the darkness of winter is getting to be too much - it's Valentine's Day! Something there to remind us how dark our days really are, but today, of all days, the City gives us the present we've been dreaming of - Lollapalooza. This year our present will last 3 days from August 4th-6th, have 130 performers on eight stages and take up more space in Grant Park. No one act is signed...

Yesterday afternoon Billboard's website added to the Smashing Pumpkins rumors circling the globe with a possible reunion occuring at the August 4-6th Lollapalooza here in Chicago. There's no confirmation of the dates or who will be playing, but the Texas-based Capital Sports & Entertainment are in charge again. The line-up will not be announced for weeks, but Thievery Corporation told Billboard that they would be there.

Now that we’ve had a few days to process last weekend’s largely successful Lollapalooza festival we have a few observations to make as we wrap up coverage.

Though it may have been Lollapalooza in name, it wasn’t exactly Lollapalooza in spirit as Chicago hosted what may become the next great destination rock festival after organizers work out some of the kinks in the festival's rebirth. If nothing else, Lollapalooza organizer Capital Sports Entertainment deserves credit for making the fest happen at all considering Chicago’s long-standing animosity to rock acts. But a lack of musical diversity and the tightly controlled atmosphere meant the...

In contrast to the lack of coverage in the run-up to Intonation, Lollapalooza sees to be everywhere. Chicago Innerview devoted half of their monthly issue to it, the Red Eye (a co-sponsor of the fest) is running a five-day countdown with capsule summaries of every band along with interviews, rock critics Jim Derogatis and Greg Kot have both weighed in and even if you’re not going, you probably have a mild interest in the...

Yesterday, The Mayor’s Office of Special Events announced the musical lineup for this summer’s Taste of Chicago. It’s the usual mix of artists that fall into two categories: it-would-be-cool-to-see-them-live and all-you-have-to-do-is-ask.
