Morning Box Score: Dodgers Snap Zambrano's Win Streak
Carlos Zambrano was riding a 10-game winning streak dating back to last August, but his teammates bailed him out of some certain losses in the first couple weeks of the season. The Los Angeles Dodgers made sure that couldn't happen yesterday, chasing Big Z for five runs in the first inning en route to a 7-3 win at Wrigley Field. Zambrano only lasted five innings, his shortest outing of the season, allowing six runs. LA outscored the Cubs 27-15 in taking two out of three games in the series. Things aren't getting easier for the North siders as the Colorado Rockies come to town for a three-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. (CSN, WGN-AM 720).
Morning Box Score: Cubs Bats Lift Off in Houston
The Cubs got off to a fast start in Houston last night, tagging Astros starter Wandy Rodriguez for five runs, capped by a three-run home run by Alfonso Soriano. That was enough for Carlos Zambrano to claim his tenth consecutive win dating back to last August in the Cubs' 9-5 win, but just barely. Zambrano gave up five runs in 5-2/3 innings, but his solo home run in the top of the sixth inning provided the margin to earn the victory. It was Zambrano's 22nd home run of his career, extending his Cubs record for home runs by a pitcher.

Cubs Season Recap
As written her earlier in the week, the Streak is now 102 years and counting for the Cubs. With the Ricketts family finally in control of the team and a marketing campaign geared toward the notion that the new ownership wanted nothing more than a title, the Cubs instead went out and had one of their more disappointing seasons in recent memory.
Extra, Extra
- It seems some aldermen are pretty steamed about Rahm Emanuel's impending run for Mayor.
- It seems Tony Rezko , who pleaded guilty today to another fraud charge, is "ready and willing" to testify against ex-gov Rod Blagojevich if given the chance at the next Blago trial.
- Allan Kustok, the husband of slain teacher Anita Jeanie Kustok and charged with her murder, has been ordered held on $2 million bond.
Big Z Claims Big Retirement Coming
To say it's been a roller coaster year for Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano would be something of an understatement. So it's understandable that he's thinking of hanging up his spikes come the end of his current contract with the team following the 2012 season. After a year that saw him get shelled on opening day, go back and forth between starting rotation and bullpen, throw a hissy fit at a teammate in the dugout during a game, then sent packing to the restricted list (and therapy), and then finally back on the rotation where he's returned to his former, sharp self on the mound ... yeah, we'd be tired and thinking about retirement, too.

Big Baby Z to Return Next Week
Chicago Cubs pitcher and resident hothead Carlos Zambrano is expected to be back in the Cubs' pitching rotation sometime next week according to Cubs manager Lou Piniella. ESPN reports that Piniella chose that time frame because the team will be on the road in Houston and Colorado through August 1st, and he felt it would be "easier" away from the "big media presence."
Zambrano To Restricted List, Therapy
The Cubs have reached an agreement with Carlos Zambrano's agent and MLB's Players Union on how to handle the hot-tempered pitcher after Friday's outburst. The team will switch Zambrano from the suspended list to the restricted list starting today - which means he's back on the payroll - and also enter a 'treatment' program. The move means Zambrano will be away from the team through at least the All-Star Break and the team has called up Jeff Stevens to take his spot. No one involved has elaborated on exactly what kind of 'treatment' Zambrano will undergo but it seems pretty obvious it'll be for behavioral/anger issues. After all, this is not exactly the first time Zambrano has been involved in an outburst with a teammate (or an outburst in general). From ESPN:
