Psst! Over Here! Secret Saturday Plans!

Alright, folks, I have to make this quick before my editors get back from their coffee run. Here's the deal: By now you probably know about our fifth anniversary party this Saturday night at The Whistler. I want to tell you about a great concert going on that night, but if my editors find out I plugged something other than our party, they'll make Gitmo look like a Mancow stunt. They are not fucking around on this one.

Two Top Ten Orchestras Come to Town

Chicago and New York are swapping orchestras for the night, with the CSO playing at Carnegie Hall and Lorin Maazel leading the New York Philharmonic at Symphony Center at 7:30 p.m.

El Cubanito, a Cuban sandwich shop on North Pulaski, has only been open for six months, but owners Alberto and Laritza Ramos have been getting "Judy at Carnegie Hall"-level raves from the usual suspects for their Cuban sandwich. The combination of the "LTH effect" and Logan Square Cubans longing for a taste of something they can call their own have reached such a fever pitch that Alberto Ramos told Chicago Magazine's "Dish" newsletter that he sells 400 Cuban sandwiches a day. We visited El Cubanito just before lunchtime Saturday and asked Alberto Ramos about that claim. He only backtracked slightly, telling Chicagoist that while he's not certain of the exact number, "it's a lot."

What Chicagoist loves about David Sedaris is that the stories of his messed up childhood and family not only make us laugh hysterically, but they make us feel like ours aren't really that bad. We've read most everything David has written - his books, his Slate diary, his Esquire articles, we even love Dave's brother's website and the fact that Dave's sister makes cupcakes and sells them in NYC. We're crazy for everything Sedaris. Chicagoist bought mp3s of Live at Carnegie Hall and listened to them on our commute, trying not to laugh outload and appear to be a raving lunatic on the el. So we were so excited when a reader wrote in and told us that David is going to be in Chicago this weekend to promote his new book, "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim". Let the stalking begin!
