Man Paralyzed After Saving A Woman From Falling Debris
A 33-year-old man is now paralyzed after saving a woman from falling debris in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood. Rogelio Rodriguez and his wife Amelia were walking down a sidewalk when he noticed debris falling from an exterior wall of a Chase Bank branch and quickly pushed a nearby woman pedestrian out of the way. A split second later, huge chunks of concrete fell on top of him, crushing his spine. Rodriguez was in intensive care until last week, and doctors told his wife he will never walk again. Chase spokesman, Tom Kelly, says the bank has been in talks with the family's attorney and insurance carriers to "reach a solution." Solution meaning "ridiculously huge settlement" no doubt. Our thoughts are with Mr. Rodriguez, a hero in our book. [S-T]

Weekend Jaunts

The Pony's will be playing at Looptopia around 8:45 p.m. Looptopia, Chicago's "white-night" like celebration will run from 5 p.m. - 5...

Londonist took a walk through Oliver Twist's London, thanks to a gorgeous map layer for Google Earth. They also caught up with modern-day fictional London, with the Fantastic Four and 28 Weeks Later. It was a week of insanity over at DCist. They started the week off with...
Peace Out, Gun, Momma Needs a New Pair of Shoes
The Chicago Police Department set a goal of 500 guns for the gun return drive held this weekend. They figured around that number of people would take city up on their offer to trade in guns—no questions asked—for a $100 debit card.
