  • With tomorrow's airing of the long-forgotten Barack Obama episode of Check, Please! in sight, Bridget Houlihan and Tammy Green visit Obama (and Chicagoist) favorite Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop before the combination of following in the President-elect's footsteps and the "Check, Please! effect" make the Hyde Park restaurant the center of the local restaurant universe. [Chicago Bites]
  • Chicago Gluttons jefe Darwensi calls The Meatloaf Bakery in Lincoln Park "the quintessential 'Goddammit, its 6:35pm and I have no idea what to get for dinner; I got three brats and a lazy, fat ass husband to feed' spot." He even gained access to the kitchen to see the "meatfuckery" up close. [Chicago Gluttons]

    • Folks around here love a good riesling. Lucky for us that it's Riesling Week and Julia Thiel has comiled a list of restaurants celebrating it in town over at the Food Chain.
    • Also from the Reader's website, Chicago Drinks is a new site where readers can view weekly drink specials throughout town, get an inside look at bars throughout town and view videos previously posted to the Food Chain. Bridget Houlihan and Tammy "Zesmerelda" Green at Chicago Bites took the time to head to Devon Seafood Grill in the Gold Coast. Both of the ladies enjoyed the meal immensely, but to get the full effect, you should listen to their podcast. Meanwhile,...

Today is "Charlie Trotter Day" in Chicago, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the opening of his eponymous restaurant. The Sun-Times had a couple of nice pieces this week in conjunction. We linked to Janet Fuller's story of Trotter's first two employees, who are still with him today, in...

Here are some things in the news to chew on while we're eating kabobs at the Velika Gospa. Macy's second-quarter profits don't look too good. Neither does the forecast for the residential real estate industry. A woman was run over by a garbage truck on the north side this morning. Indications are that she laid down behind the rear tires before it happened. Two apartment buildings in the Fulton Market were evacuated Tuesday after...
