It's been a while since the likes of Bill Russell and Lenny Wilkins had to fill dual roles as player-coaches, but the Bulls just might need Vinny Del Negro to trade in his suits for shorts this week. Kirk Hinrich will be forced to miss Tuesday's game after being suspended one game by the league for making contact with an official after he was ejected from Friday night's game against Miami. more ›

Are we reading too much into LeBron James' filing of paperwork with the NBA league offices this week? Following through with his previously announced intentions, King James submitted an application to change his jersey number from 23 to 6, wanting the league to honor Michael Jordan by retiring the number league-wide in much the same was that Major League Baseball did for Jackie Robinson. While we don't believe you can really compare Jordan's on-court accomplishments to what Robinson did - breaking his sport's color barrier - we do wonder what LeBron's comments mean in terms of his future. more ›
With the greatest free agent class of all time available this summer, the Bulls are actively trying to amass as much room under the salary cap with which to lure the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh to Chicago. As today's 2 p.m. trading deadline looms, rumors have linked just about every player on the roster not named Derrick Rose to potential deals. But it's John Salmons who is the first to be sent packing in return for the coveted expiring contracts. Salmons goes to the Milwaukee Bucks in return for Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson Hakkim Warrick and Joe Alexander.

The Chicago Bulls sent two representatives to Dallas this weekend for the NBA's annual All-Star Weekend. Rookie Taj Gibson suited up for the first year squad in the Rookie Challenge on Friday and scored six points and grabbed two rebounds in the game that saw the rooks beat the second years players 140-128. more ›
- While Scott Lee Cohen may have let himself be muscled off the Democratic ticket for Lite Guv, he's clearly not going away anytime soon.
- Speaking of Lite Guv, Illnois House Speaker Michael Madigan has proposed an amendment to do away with the office entirely by 2015.
- CBS 2's Dave Savini put away the black light for a minute to reveal a "hidden epidemic" amongst area school children. Not obesity, not autism -- gym class injuries.
The Chicago Bulls are doing to their blossoming center what many opponents have been unable to -- shut Joakim Noah down. Suffering through a painful bout of plantar fasciitis, the team has decided to rest Noah at least through next weekend's All-Star Break. The team hopes it will give him time heal and return to form. While trying to play through the pain lately, his performance has noticeably suffered -- he recently slipped to third in rebounding after being the second most prolific on the boards for most of the year. more ›
While fans cast some questionable votes -- Iverson, really? -- in picking the starters for the NBA All-Star Game, the coaches did a better job when selecting the reserves to round out the rosters on Thursday. Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was among the players picked to suit up for the Eastern Conference squad. The second year player is currently averaging 19.8 points/game and 5.9 assists/game for the 22-22 Bulls. Slowed by an ankle injury to begin the season, Rose has come on strong of late. He's averaging 23.5 points and 6.5 assists a game this month. more ›
With the NBA trade deadline looming in a couple weeks, the rumors are starting to build as teams look to bolster their roster for the playoffs or adjust their future salary cap commitments ahead of the best free agency class in a very long time (some would say ever). With the Bulls mired in a disappointing season -- although now back to .500 after winning four straight -- and expected to be strong suitors of the likes of LeBron James, Dawyne Wade and Chris Bosh this summer, they are likely to shop some of their higher priced talent to clear cap space. more ›
The Bulls bounced back from Wednesday's loss and got a rare road win, eclipsing the Phoenix Suns 115-104. A big 19-9 run to end the second period helped swing momentum to the Bulls going into halftime. Which was necessary given the run the Suns had to open the second half. But, for once, the Bulls held off the rally and held on for victory. Derrick Rose led all scorers with 32 points. Even better? Rose was one of a handful of NBA stars who pledged to donate $1,000 for every point they scored last night to the Clinton/Bush Haiti fund. Luol Deng scored 23 and Joakim Noah had 19 points and 8 rebounds. Now it's time to see if the Bulls, still miraculously in the playoff picture as the eight seed in the Eastern Conference, can start a winning streak. But it'll be tough as they face the Houston Rockets (7:30 p.m., WGN) more ›
Scottie Pippen has already seen his number 33 hoisted to the rafters of the United Center, but his NBA accolades apparently hadn't been sufficient to get his number retired at his alma mater until now. Pippen will finally see his jersey retired at the University of Central Arkansas in a ceremony tonight. more ›
Have you watched the Bulls play lately? We wouldn't cast blame if you answered no, because they've been painful to watch recently -- losers in seven of their last eight, by an average of almost 16 points. Perhaps they'd be more competitive if they actually played some defense. In their recent 110-78 debacle against the Toronto Raptors, Jarrett Jack was able to actually stop and tie his shoe while in possession of the ball! Jack received a pass at the top of the key when he noticed his laces were undone, and he bent down to fix it while cradling the ball. None of the Bulls defenders even challenged Jack as he was in a compromised position. Loul Deng should've attacked with his long arms and tried to steal the ball, but instead he looked like he wasn't sure what to do. It's no surprise they lost by 32 points with an effort like that. In an interview for an upcoming issue of The Sporting News, NBA enigma Ron Artest admitted to drinking during games while with the Chicago Bulls. In the interview, Artest said, "I used to drink Hennessy at halftime...I (kept it) in my locker. I'd just walk to the liquor store (near the stadium) and get it." Artest also addressed his time with the Bulls, saying: more ›
In the midst of yet another rough "Circus Trip, " the Bulls got a piece of bad news about Kirk Hinrich and his sprained thumb, an injury suffered during a practice in Portland last week. The guard, who has been the team's sixth man all season, will miss one to two weeks with the injury. A MRI conducted Monday indicated that the injured ligament remains attached to the bone, which is good news in that he'll only miss a limited amount of action. Last year, Hinrich missed 31 games after tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his other thumb. Still, the Bulls are already short handed due to Tyrus Thomas' fractured left forearm and the team was lacking in backcourt depth even before Hinrich's injury. How much can they depend on Jannero Pargo and Lindsey Hunter (the oldest player in the NBA) to contribute in the next few games. Let's just hope the Bulls don't do something rash and try to talk Allen Iverson out of retiring! more ›
So far this young season, Bulls budding superstar Derrick Rose hasn't played up to the level many expect. His play has been more tentative, he's committing more turnovers and his shooting percentage has dropped. While's he is still recovering from an ankle injury that caused him to miss most of the preseason, and the loss of Ben Gordon allows opposing teams to tighten up their defense, Rose is perhaps his harshest critic when it comes to his play. And he's vowed to do something about it. more ›
We're fans of athletes who don't take themselves too seriously and the young Chicago Bulls prove themselves worthy of that adoration. Seriously, do you think Vince Carter would ever do something like this? [h/t NQTC, via Windy Citizen] more ›
Don't be surprised if our Editor-in-Chief is a little jumpy this week. He's got this silly fear of clowns and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus comes to town on Wednesday. Taking over the United Center from Nov. 18-29, the "Greatest Show on Earth" once again exiles the Bulls and Blackhawks for their annual "circus trips." The Bulls open their West Coast swing on Tuesday night against the Sacramento Kings, followed by games against the L.A. Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trailblazers, Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks over the next two weeks before returning to the Madhouse on Madison again. While the team's been able to return to Chicago to celebrate Thanksgiving with family between games, this year the Bulls play the Jazz in Utah on the holiday. more ›
During Tuesday's morning shoot around, the Bulls sent power forward home Tyrus Thomas home with "flu-like symptoms." Thomas missed the Bulls dramatic comeback win against the Milwaukee Bucks last night, with rookie Taj Gibson starting in his place. more ›
Is this the year the Bulls finally reclaim their place among the NBA's elite? For the past few seasons, the Bulls have been full of potential but inconsistent on fulfilling that promise on the court. One of these years, they'll finally make that jump. When we last saw the Bulls playing meaningful games, it was in an epic seven-game series (plus seven OT periods) with the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the playoffs. Taking the defending NBA champs and second-seeded Celts the full distance gave Bulls fans a lot to look forward to for this season. But is the optimism justified just yet? more ›
Once a role playe, always a role player. Former Bulls All-Star BJ Armstrong has been picked by Gov. Quinn to help out with youth outreach as part of Quinn's plan to fight youth violence. Armstrong, who won was part of the first Bulls three-peat of the early 90's will, according to ABC 7, "advise Quinn on youth sports, anti-obesity programs and promoting sportsmanship." Armstrong still has ties to Bull, serving as agent to the Bulls young star Derrick Rose. more ›
Chicago's sports teams seem to have a knack for drafting players with unique talents. Bulls rookie James Johnson showed off his YouTube-worthy skill -- break dancing! In this clip posted by Dime Magazine, he shows off his windmill skillz at the 2009 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot. He's not the only local rookie to grace YouTube for his off the field antics. Bears rookie Jerron Gilbert has made a bigger name for himself on account of his leaping ability than his play on the field thus far. more ›
Like their hockey counter-parts, Chicago's NBA team is getting their season started with a a little European jaunt. Tomorrow night, the Bulls take on the Utah Jazz in a preseason game at London's O2 Arena. The team is already there and settling for the game tomorrow night, though both Derrick Rose and Tyrus Thomas could sit out, according to coach Vinny del Negro. more ›
For the upcoming season, the Chicago Bulls have added a spanish-language radio broadcast as they try to reach out to the city's large Latino community. Twenty-one home games will be aired on La Tremenda WRTO 1200 AM, with Omar Ramos and Ozzie Guillen, Jr. calling the games. As in son of the hot headed, loud mouthed White Sox manager. If he runs his mouth anything like his dad, we're sure the broadcasts will be entertaining -- no matter the on-court play. Pretty sweet as we've been looking for an excuse to brush up on our Spanish. This isn't the first time Ramos and Guillen have teamed up: the pair have been calling the White Sox on Spanish radio for the past few seasons. more ›
In celebration of Michael Jordan's induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame tomorrow, both the Tribune and Sun-Times have created an extensive special Michael Jordan Tributes. Both feature a collection of articles, columns, photos, and videos that trace MJ's life from his childhood, to his standout college career, to his illustrious run in the NBA, his detours for the Olympics and minor league baseball, as well as life in the executive suite. So go ahead and waste your workday reminiscing about the best basketball player we're likely to ever see, as well as the one who brought six championships to town. more ›
On Friday, Michael Jordan finally assumes his rightful place in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Leading up to his enshrinement, the Trib asks what we can only assume is a rhetorical question, "Is MJ the best ever?" Sure, we may be a teeny bit biased here in Chicago. But we still pick MJ over the likes of Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Oscar Robertson. So would former Bulls assistant coach Johnny Bach, "I saw Oscar Robertson and Russell play. I coached against Wilt (in college). The idolatry Michael experienced would send anybody else off spinning. But he continued to produce." more ›
Reports indicate that on Thursday, the NCAA will strip the University of Memphis of its wins from the 2007-08 following an investigation into violations by the program. Those violations include accusations that Bulls point guard Derrick Rose had somebody else take his SAT exam and that family of the Chicago hoops phenom received other illegal benefits such as free travel. more ›
The NBA released the league's schedule for the upcoming season on Tuesday, and the Bulls (see Bulls schedule) face a series of challenges right away that could help clarify whether or not they can grab a seat among the NBA's elite. more ›
The Bulls front office seems to have an infatuation for Dukies, having drafted the likes of Elton Brand, Jay Williams, Chris Duhon and Luol Deng in the past few years. And they were supposedly trying to move up in this year's draft in order to land the Blue Devils' Gerald Henderson. more ›
Turns out that the rumors we'd heard over the past couple weeks were true. On the first day that NBA teams could make offers to free agents, the Detroit Pistons lured Ben Gordon away from the Bulls. Gordon reportedly agreed to a five-year deal worth between $55 and $60 million. While the Bulls claimed to want to retain Gordon, and Gordon stated his desire to remain in Chicago, he sure didn't waste much time in signing elsewhere. more ›
Heading into Thursday night's NBA draft, the Bulls were looking for some help with their inside scoring and some depth in the backcourt. When the night was over, they had addressed the first need twice over while neglecting the other entirely. more ›
A year ago, Derrick Rose was the center of the basketball world's attention as he was picked first overall in the NBA Draft. In his rookie season, he lived up to the hype, winning the rookie of the year award and ingratiating himself to fans in Chicago. Rose has had a bit of a rocky ride since the season ended, however. First there was the photo of him flashing a gang sign, and then the allegations he cheated on his SATs in order to get into the University of Memphis. more ›
