For one day only (until they decide to do it again) Chef Cleetus Friedman of City Provisions will be riding along with Philip Foss on the Meatyballs Mobile! That sounds like a synopsis for a bad road trip movie, but it should be a great collaboration. Friedman, who is one of our favorite meat cooks in town, has created something really special for today's ride: a meatball that's a combination of lamb and pork served with a coconut milk masala and fresh mint tzatziki sauce.
City Provisions Announces Brunch, We Rejoice
Last week, City Provisions (our favorite charcuterie maker and all-around great local food emporium) announced that they would start serving brunch. CP already makes its own bacon, corned beef, pates and sandwiches, and starting this Sunday, June 26th, City Provisions will be serving an expanded menu from 10-2. The menu, which looks drool-worthy, will include latkes, whiskey-glazed ham, fresh biscuits and donuts, duck fat home fries and house-cured salmon.
City Provisions Launches Meat Share
When last we visited City Provisions, the north side temple of all things local and/or meaty, we heard whispers about a forthcoming Meat CSA or farm share program. The program is official, the details are here, and you can buy it now. Based on the meat we ate there and the skills of the people in the kitchen, it's going to be a heck of a deal.
One Great Sandwich: City Provisions Turkey Pastrami
Business has been booming at City Provisions' newly opened delicatessen. Cleetus Friedman and company have had a hard time keeping their house-made corned beef in stock. A Saturday visit to the deli also found they were out of a couple other lunch meats.

After months of building (and a few hard hat tours), City Provisions is set to open its deli at 1816 W. Wilson on September 3.

City Provisions Scratches Its Farm Itch
Some chefs thrive on the rush of a packed house, expediting orders, turning over covers, the heat of the kitchen giving them the equivalent of a runner's high. Then there are those who choose the equally demanding but different pace of catering, where the number of meals is already known and the challenges are adaptation and transportation. This is the path of City Provisions chef/owner Cleetus Friedman.
