Zach Stewart had problems with the lower half of Cleveland's lineup while the Cubs needed every bit of those six runs they scored in the 11th inning to beat the Mets.

The White Sox played well past curfew last night. But it was worth it.
Evening Box Score: Cubs, Sox Sweep
The Cubs get their first three-game win streak of the season, but it wasn't easy. A misplayed fly ball had Ozzie Guillen and company thinking of 2005.
Morning Box Score: Big Z Slides Out of Jams at Wrigley, Quentin Powers Sox
Carlos Zambrano showed some guile in getting out of two early bases loaded jams. If the White Sox played the rest of the AL Central like they do Cleveland, they'd run away with the division.
Baseball Box Score: Sox Miss Sweep, Cubs' Garza Makes History
It was a disappointing day for baseball in Chicago as the Sox seemed to relapse and lose their bats in a 7-1 loss to Cleveland and the Cubs lost their first series of the season after a 5-4 loss to the Pirates.
Afternoon Box Score: Cubs Rally to Beat Pirates, White Sox Bats Stay Hot in Cleveland
Let's start in Cleveland, where the White Sox put up a lot of runs again and did so without the long ball in an 8-3 win over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. Edwin Jackson gets his first win of the season, going 6 innings and settling down after a shaky second inning in which he let the Tribe back into the game after being spotted a 5-0 lead. Chris Sale and Sergio Santos were stellar in relief of Jackson. On the offensive side, both Gordon Beckham and Carlos Quentin are off to torrid starts. Beckham was 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in two runs with a bases loaded single in the Sox' four-run second inning, while Quentin had two more doubles, one of them driving in a pair of runs. It's the Sox' first 2-0 start on the road since their World Series championship in 2005, but way too early to start thinking of bigger prizes.
Cubs Deal DeRosa, Plan Other Bad Moves
After completing a career year where he played six different positions, belted 21 home runs, and drove in 87 RBIs, the Chicago Cubs rewarded Mark DeRosa by trading him to the Cleveland Indians. The Cubs will receive a trio of minor league pitchers: Jeff Stevens, Chris Archer and John Gaub. DeRosa will likely play third base for the Indians. The Cubs replaced DeRosa with another utility infielder by signing free agent Aaron Miles to a two-year deal. Also in the works is a possible trade of Jason Marquis to the Rockies in exchange for Luis Vizcaino; rumors claim the Cubs are also interested in signing free agent Milton Bradley. Yes, because what this team needs is the stability of Milton Bradley.

Gothamist learned about the craziest urban nightmare come true: A huge python found in the bathroom pipes. It was also a nightmare for some Yankees fans, as manger Joe Torre declined to come back and manage the Bronx Bombers. At least the city's attempt to give some direction to subway riders was interesting, pranksters went shirtless at the Fifth Avenue Abercrombie & Fitch and the I Heart Brooklyn Girls calendars came out. And just...
Jenks Ties Record
Those of us who pledge allegiance to a certain South Side baseball team have had precious few bright spots this season. Mark Buehrle's no-hitter and ... well, that about it. Another bright spot may come soon courtesy of Sox closer Bobby Jenks, who on Sunday tied a major league record by retiring his 41st straight batter faced. The last batter to reach base against Jenks was Ryan Garko of the Cleveland Indians back on July...
One-Hit Wonder
Chicagoist wants to know where exactly the White Sox offense has been. Did they leave it down in Arizona? Because for a team to hold an opponent to one hit yet lose the game is quite an impressive feat! In fact, only 10 times in the past 15 seasons have teams with fewer than two hits won a game.
Cubs, Sox Win Openers
The Cubs and White Sox each won their season openers Monday. Of course, the Sox actually began their opener on Sunday. A 3-hour rain delay pushed the game into Monday morning, when the game ended around 1:00am.

No Minoso
The Baseball Hall of Fame added 17 new members following votes by a 12-member committee of baseball historians and Negro Leagues experts. Among the list of 39 finalists who did not get enough votes for entry into the Hall was former White Sox star Minnie Minoso. Born in Cuba, Minoso came the the U.S. in 1946 and played first for the New York Cubans in the Negro Leagues. He made his major league debut with...
1969 Revisited?
Are the Sox on the verge of an epic choke even larger than that of the legendary '69 Cubs? That team held an 8 1/2 lead over the Cardinals and 9 1/2 game lead over the Mets on August 14th. By August 31st, that lead was down to 4 games. By September 10th, the Mets were in first place and finished the season up 8 games by virtue of their 24-8 finish.
