It’s commencement season. Every year at this time, there is fierce competition among universities to find prominent figures with the right sort of cache to send their graduates off right. University of Michigan made a splash this year with a speech from President Obama which was less controversial than his Notre Dame appearance last year. What about the local universities?

Yesterday's highly emotional and controversial appearance by President Obama at Notre Dame has come and gone and already it seems the buzz had quickly faded. That's due in part to the fact that Obama gave an excellent speech, standing his ground but acknowledging the controversy and the right to differing opinions, and calling for a common ground in discussing issues such as abortion and stem-cell research, issues that led to the protests. We won't bother to pontificate any further on the matter. Instead, we'll let the President's words speak for themselves. Read the text of Obama's speech here and watch it here. Springer Spouts Off On Ethics?
The controversial Northwestern Law School alum Jerry Springer spoke to the graduating law school class last night. He gave a speech that lasted about 15 minutes, and quoted his mother, Winston Churchill, and Socrates. The 1968 graduate told the Class of 2008:
