Stacy Peterson's October 2007 disappearance gets more publicity, thanks in large part to the churlishness of her estranged husband Drew. But today marks five years since Lisa Ruttenberg Stebic went missing, and there are no signs of a break in that case.
The Lisa Stebic Case, Five Years Later
New Attorney For Peterson
Drew Peterson has added another attorney to his team, one that has experience defending men accused in the disappearance of their wives. George Lenard was announced as the latest addition to Peterson's defense team over the weekend though lead attorney Joel Brodsky said that Lenard has been working with the team for months. Lenard has also represented Craig Stebic whose wife Lisa has been missing for over two-and-a-half years. Stebic has not been charged with any wrong-doing but remains a "person of interest" in his wife's disappearance. [Tribune]
Stebics Sue CBS for "Reckless" Behavior
We're surprised it took this long. Craig Stebic's sister, Jill Webb, and her husband Robert Webb have announced that they filed a lawsuit against CBS2 along with station president Joe Ahern, news director Carol Fowler, and reporters Rob Johnson, Mike Puccinelli, Michele Weldon and Alita Guillen for their role in Bikinigate 2007. At issue is a video that CBS aired showing NBC reporter Amy Jacobson in a bikini at Craig Stebic's home; Jacobson says she was merely trying to get closer to his family to dig for more information into the story about Stebic's still missing wife, Lisa. The video subsequently led to Jacobson's dismissal (The Jake filed her own lawsuit against CBS in July.)
Amy Jacobson Still Unemployed, Sues CBS 2
It's been a year since former NBC 5 reporter Amy Jacobson appeared in a bikini at the home of Craig Stebic, husband of still-missing Lisa, a move that resulted in Jacobson's release from NBC 5. Now, she's fighting back against the rival network that aired a videotape of the incident. Jacobson and husband Jaime Anglada filed a $1 million lawsuit yesterday against CBS 2 for airing the infamous tape, claiming she has been unable to find work since the incident because CBS 2 portrayed her as "an adulteress and disreputable reporter." Chicago's personal Smoking Gun, Eric Zorn, has the court papers which claim the following:
Chicagoist Weekend Blotter
The warm weather seems to have kept some of our naughty citizens somewhat at bay this weekend, but there was still some activity in Chicago's criminal justice world:
Amy Jacobson: "I'm Fine. Thanks For Asking."
When last we checked in on Amy Jacobson, things weren't going too well. She went from working the point on the biggest missing person story of the year (before Drew Peterson's skeeviness made Craig Stebic look like a paragon of virtue by comparison) to out of a job, all because of an "what the hell were you thinking?" decision to slip on a two-piece bathing suit, take the kids in tow to Stebic's house and work the case while unknowingly being filmed by CBS 2 cameras.
Stebic, Peterson Updates
Things were jumping at the Will County Court House. Lisa Stebic's children testified in front of a grand jury yesterday about their mother's disappearance six months ago. Craig Stebic, Lisa's estranged husband and person of interest in the case, hasn't allowed the police to interview his kids, even though they're two of the last people to see her. Lisa's family says they wanted the kids to be interviewed at a child advocacy center instead,...
Extra Extra
- Craig Stebic had his divorce petition dismissed. We're guessing he got no argument from his wife.
The Final Amy Jacobson Post This Week, Unless Something Else Develops
It looks as thought the Amy Jacobson story continues to have legs (this might be the first in a series of unintentional puns, so bear with us). First, the Plainfield police department finally announced yesterday that they're considering Craig Stebic as a "person of interest", and not just because he throws a memorable pool party. It turns out that Stebic has refused requests by police to take a polygraph test and to let the cops...
From Covering the News to Becoming the News
Just one day after the first shoe dropped, the other has fallen with a resounding thud. NBC 5’s Amy Jacobson was canned from her reporting job last night after video surfaced of her visiting Craig Stebic, husband of missing Plainfield woman Lisa Stebic, and wearing a bikini with her two young children in tow. Jacobson, a self-described aggressive reporter who worked for NBC for 11 years, told the Sun-Times that she’s “devastated” and that she’d...
Separated at Birth: Brenda Starr and NBC 5's Amy Jacobson?
NBC 5 reporter Amy Jacobson (pictured, right, with NBC 5 weekend anchor Anna Davlantes), who's been covering the story of missing Plainfield woman Lisa Stebic, was caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place over the weekend. Video footage surfaced of Jacobson in a bikini at the home of Craig Stebic, Lisa's estranged husband, on her day off. Before we go any further, kudos to the headline writer at the Tribune for not stooping...
