Sometimes, picking on Cubs fans can't be avoided.
Thursday Afternoon Diversion: Dissecting Henneman!
To honor Opening Day at Wrigley Field this year, Justin Kaufmann over at WBEZ interviewed a drunken Cubs fan in front of the stadium. If you've ever been to the Schadenfreude Rent Party at the Gallery Cabaret, you're familiar with Kate James's "Henneman." And like any good prank, Henneman, with her outrageous behavior and stereotypical level of intoxication, was just credible enough to be believed, but just absurd enough to make you wonder.
Video of Cubs Fans in Their Natural Habitat
Sure, White Sox fans have a reputation (somewhat deserved) for getting rowdy. But we've seen Cubs fans turn on each other and fans of opposing teams, as well. Tipster Kent Parson filmed this video of Cubs fans fighting after yesterday's game. We haven't received a reply from Harkin about why they were fighting, if any arrests were made or citations issued, or he had any involvement or relation to the participants. A a search for crime around Wrigley Field at Everyblock only lists crimes through March 27.
Extra, Extra
- NIU's police chief, Donald Grady, has been placed on a leave of absence after allegations of improper ethical behavior were made by NIU's student newspaper.
- Joseph Caputo, a former pricing analyst for MPC Products who turned FBI informant, has been awarded $4.5 million for helping the FBI crack a price-inflating case against the company.
- In the wake of all the fuss over the CTA's new proposed hikes and service cuts, The Reader's Whet Moser took a thoughtful look at transit issues in a few other large cities.
Sneaky Cubs Fans And Their Ads
A few sneaky Cubs fans, celebrating another title-less season, decided to have some fun with the gallows humor and pulled a fast one on the Tribune, placing an ad in the paper that had a hidden meaning. And by "hidden," we mean in the Kevin Nealon "Mister Subliminal" kind of way. But, hey, it's kinda cute and even the Trib had some fun with it. Wait 'til next year, indeed.
