With yesterday's crazy, come-from-behind 12-inning victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs have cut their magic number to just two. Two more wins by the Cubs, two more losses by the Brew Crew or a Cubs win and Brewers loss will hand the NL Central crown to the North Siders. That means the Cubs could clinch their division tonight. Did that old goat curse claim itself another victim? Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano left last night's game in the seventh inning after feeling discomfort in his shoulder. Zambrano will fly back to Chicago for an MRI this morning to determine whether there's any damage or not. You know that weird little hop that Alfonso Soriano does every time he catches a ball? Well, the Cubs All Star outfielder injured his calf doing just that in the first inning of Tuesday night's game. Helped off the field by teammates, it looks like Soriano might be headed to the disabled list. The Cubs have recently instructed Carlos Zambrano to cut the caffeine. While he admits to reducing his intake, he hasn't been able to quit cold turkey. Surprisingly, though, the club's caffeine prohibition has nothing to do with his crazy temper. The Cubs' medical staff believe that the stimulant is contributing to the Cubs ace's forearm cramps. And that means no more coffee or Red Bull for Z. Unless, of course, "caffeine" is a new euphemism......
