Spectralism, electric cello, hallucinogenic drugs - there are a lot of juicy buzz words circling local contemporary music ensemble Dal Niente's Thursday night concert at the Mayne Stage. Headlining the program - and what has us all a-tizzy - is the first-ever Chicago performance of Italian contemporary composer Fausto Romitelli's Professor Bad Trip.

Weekend Music Picks: New-Music Groups Go Old School
Two new-music groups that normally perform chamber music programs that tend toward the avant garde and experimental are taking the edge off by going back in time this weekend, with concerts featuring music that's, relatively-speaking, downright ancient.
Preview: Anaphora's 'Synesthetic Sounds'
We'll plug pretty much anything either Anaphora or dal niente does, so when there's an Anaphora concert that features a world premiere by dal niente founder Kirsten Broberg, obviously we'll tell you to check it out.
Weekend Classical Music Picks
This trio of concerts includes solos, duets, and a bunch of people playing a concert entitled "Duality."
This Weekend's Choice Chamber Music
With last weekend's Lyric Opera season opener, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's first concert and gala coming up this weekend (tickets are still available for both, by the way), the 2009-2010 classical season has hit the ground running. If there was any doubt about it, check out these great chamber music offerings over the weekend (and Monday) as the concert music year gets in full swing.
26 Hours of Music, 1 Good Cause
If your calendar has an opening sometime between 8:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 p.m. Saturday, check out the Music Marathon at Northwestern University's Regenstein Recital Hall, a 26-hour-long extravaganza packed to the gills with performances by the school's faculty, alumni, and students.
"Hard Music, Hard Liquor" at The Spot
Chicago new music group dal niente will be performing a show entitled "Hard Music, Hard Liquor" at The Spot this Saturday night. The program gets its name because it features five solo pieces so mind-numbingly difficult, it took these accomplished musicians up to six months to prepare for this concert.
