We've definitely been digging the new Dandy Warhols disc ...Earth To The Dandy Warhols..., long since available for download through the band's site, but which will finally physically hit shelves August 19. To continue to drum up interest amongst the general public, the band has elected to release it's next single for free, and "The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad of Sheriff Shorty" is a chugging, slightly spaghetti western-esque, bombastic slice of pop that only a band like the Dandys can produce.
We're gearing up for the stretch-run of Chicago's premier music fests, Pitchfork and Lollapalooza. But there are some pretty great shows still happening unrelated to those fests and lots of tickets going on sale or already available. It's too hot to mull it over any more, so here we go.
The weather has been gorgeous all week and, if you're like us, you've been stuck inside, dreaming of a chance to get out and about. Lots of bands are announcing late summer/early fall tour dates for our fair city and lots of Lolla-related shows happening, so while you wait for the weekend, here are some shows you can utilize your Ticketmaster clicking finger on.
After a waaaay too long delay, the Switches debut album Lay Down The Law is finally available in the U.S. Their song "Drama Queen" ensnared us last year with it's stomping glam beat, sneering Dandy Warhols-esque verses, and it's over the top Queen-sized chorus. The rest of the album took the promise of that original salvo and decimated our expectations in the best possible way.
Call it a case of Joni Mitchell’s Disease. Imagine you’re a folkie singer-songwriter from the 60s. In your genre, Bob Dylan is the standard-bearer and is the first name spoken when discussing those who’ve left their mark on it. But you’ve made great contributions too and can hear the influence of your work even today. After 30 years of waiting to be recognized and lauded for your contributions, what do you do? You do it...
Though it was a weekend filled with good music and hope for the future, this summer’s Lollapalooza lacked the kind of moments that keep people talking about it for years to come. There were two exceptions though: the onstage pairing of Brian Jonestown Massacre with the Dandy Warhols and the choreographed dance moves of OK Go as they debuted the song “A Million Ways”. After closing out their set on the second day of Lolla,...
Chicagoist is disappointed that The Walkmen & Ambulance Ltd show at Schuba's Saturday is sold out, as well as The Brian Jonestown Massacre event at Darkroom on Sunday, but that never stops anyone from walking by and seeing if there are any scalpers. Following are some events that, as of this writing, are still on sale. Friday evening Crobar kicks off Lollapalooza with a party featuring many, many djs. RSVP at guestlistchicago@crobar.com - no mention...
The lineup for the new (but not necessarily improved) Lollapalooza on July 23rd and 24th in Grant Park was released this morning and well...it’s a mixed bag. We’re really excited about some of the bands on this list and unmoved by others. Many of the bands you’d expect to be in the lineup are: Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie, The Bravery, The Walkmen, World Leader Pretend, Louis XIV, VHS or Beta, etc. Problem...
