Rockin' Our Turntable: Friendly Fires
Much of the last decade we spent not only bobbing our heads, but full-on busting a move to much of the music that came across our paths. Dance-rock acts like Adult, The Rapture, Friendly Fires and The Klaxons seemed to multiply faster than anyone could have ever expected, but many of them seemed to have made one respectable album and then collectively faded away into the annals of the '00s. Of course, there are exceptions. Bands like Cut Copy still have a hell of a draw, and by growing as artists, they continue to make music that is both fun to listen to and relevant.
Empty Out Your Wallet: Delorean
In their ten years together, the guys from Delorean have hopped from genre to genre, starting out as a punk-dance act and eventually evolving into the pop-house hybrid they are now, delicately balancing club music with euphoric melodies and blending in hints of Balearic beat, indie rock and Madchester house. The results of this mixture are the type of summer jams that can both spur a beach-side romance and incite a sweaty dance party. This makes sense since the Barcelona-based quartet spends its days on the warm, white sands of the Mediterranean beach and spends its nights soaking in the sounds of Spanish dance clubs.
Rockin' Our Turntable: Walter Meego
We have been waiting for the debut from local duo Walter Meego for forever. Seriously. We've seen them on "next big thing" lists for at least the last two years -- and believe us, they belong on those lists -- but only now can folks who haven't seen them live finally get what the buzz is all about.
