In a bold and welcomed move, Consolidated High School District 230 is looking to add Arabic courses to its curriculum to help provide students with an opportunity to better understand a part of the world that is becoming a more integral part of everyday life, even in southwest Cook County.

But in a suburban area that has seen a backlash to an increasing Arab presence, efforts to build a program have been unsuccessful, said Zaher Sahloul, president of the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview.

New census data says that Cook County had the biggest drop in white population and has the largest black population of any county in America. LAist is experimenting with blogging dates from J-Date, but finds the best men are found offline. Some date vicariously online and that is one reason why porn is big -- really freaking big -- so they ask if they should cover XXX since the heart of it lays in the city's San Fernando Valley. A writer grapples with her food porn photography obsession, another gets censored on Flickr, one gets scooped by the LA...

El Pollo Loco just opened a restaurant in Logan Square, its first location outside of the US Southwest. Like many others, Chicagoist was there PRONTO to check it out. We'd had El Pollo Loco in California and were eager to see if it lived up to our memories. We were also excited to have a flame grilled fast food chicken alternative to KFC and a Mexican alternative to Taco Bell. El Pollo Loco promised to...

Cicero, Illinois, located just west of Chicago, right by I-290, is a generally well-swept town of about 85,000 with a storied history. Once known as the "Italian suburb", Once a center of Al Capone's activities, Cicero to this day has rumored ties to "The Outfit". In recent years the demographics have changed somewhat, with second-generation Mexicans replacing Italians. But the nature of Cicero politics remains somewhat murky -- and this year there's been plenty to ponder.

The answer is down, and to the slight left, as you look at a Chicago map. Of the five Collar Counties, Will is the fastest growing, and not incidentally home of some of the biggest political power tussles in the Chicago area. All those changing demographics are breaking the Republican Party's long-time deadlock on power, and upsetting a lot of pols in the process.
