If, on Monday night, you were to gaze up at the final building in the Cabrini-Green project left to be demolished, and saw hundreds of winking lights, you'd be well within your rights to ask the disembodied Yahoo Answers in your head: "Hey, what are all these winking lights doing in the last Cabrini-Green building left to be demolished?"
As the Lights Go Out in Cabrini, Public Art Illuminates Final Building
The Friday Afternoon Flashback: Cabrini-Green
When people talk about Chicago being a "hyper-segregated" city, often they're referring to how the row homes and high-rises were situated in areas that were cut off from the rest of the city, most commonly by the expressways or a lack of adequate public transportation.

Bensenville Demolition Begins
After years of legal battles, the demolition of several hundred homes in suburban Bensenville is slated to start today to make way for a new runway at O'Hare. The village agreed last fall to end the fight in exchange for $16 million plus an additional $20 million more from the City of Chicago to insulate homes and schools from noise pollution caused by the planes flying in and out of O'Hare. But even as one part of the Bensenville battle is over, another - over St. Johannes Cemetery - is still ongoing.

Over 20 companies submitted their qualifications to handle the demolition of Michael Reese Hospital should Chicago win the 2016 Summer Olympics and now the Public Building Commission has whittled the final list down to 12. Those 12 companies can now start putting together their bid packages to earn the contract with the city. The hospital is the proposed site of the planned Olympic Village. And at least one firm - Heneghan Wrecking - is familiar with the hospital, as WBEZ points out.
