We have fond memories of picking up cool Psychic TV albums at the old Wax Trax record store and then popping over to Demon Dogs for a hot dog afterwards while we lovingly pored over our purchases. We know Neo already does a fine job of representing the industrial scene on a nightly basis, but Liar's Club is hosting a special Wax Trax Records night this evening, including Chris Connelly reading from his new book......

The oft-repeated anecdote about the Illinois film industry in the early 21st Century was that we were so unattractive to filmmakers that the musical Chicago was filmed in Toronto. Well apparently things have improved due to the spate of films lensing in the City of Big Shoulders because the Illinois Film Office is throwing a big ass party to celebrate…itself. We talk about Demon Dogs way too freaking much, but it's such a staple of Lincoln Park that it's a hard habit to break. That being said, Demon Dogs is in the news again, after fourteen years of unpaid bills finally came due when the Illinois Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that Peter Schivarelli, owner of Demon Dogs, must pay electricity bills the Chicago Transit Authority was somehow picking up. How could this have happened?......

Chicagoist says screw hamburgers, this is a hot dog town! And one of the city's most famous hot dog stands has received yet another reprieve from the wrecking ball. Due to "shockingly" high bids, Brown Line renovations are on hold. Businesses that faced demolition as part of station expansion plans will now be able to stay open for a few more months than initially planned, including DePaul institution Demon Dogs, which sits under the tracks......

The CTA is planning to spiff up it's image with a few El station repairs, planning next spring to fix up the Grand Avenue station (registration required for Crain's) and then Clark and Division in 2006. CTA construction crews are pretty busy these days, with that work along the Dan Ryan Red Line Branch, the Blue Line Cermak Branch, and next year's plans to begin rehabbing just about every freaking station along the Brown Line......
