Afternoon Box Score: White Sox Woes Continue in Detroit
If putting up goose eggs on the scoreboard was the measure of a baseball team's success, then the White Sox would be running away with the AL Central at this point. The Sox' woes at the plate continued today in a 3-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Sox fans couldn't ask for more from John Danks, who was tagged with the loss but pitched well. But the story of this White Sox tailspin has been the offense. Juan Pierre and A.J. Pierzynski were the only hitters who could solve Tigers starter Max Scherzer. The Sox were shut out for the second consecutive game and managed to score only three runs in being swept by Detroit. Ozzie Guillen and his crew now have a stranglehold on the AL Central.
Baseball Box Score: Slaughter Rule Anyone?
Not only did the White Sox amaze with a 9-0 shutout loss to the Tigers, they almost had the assist in a no-hitter for Detroit's starting pitcher Brad Penny. Good thing almost doesn't count, only in horseshoes and hand grenades, eh?
With one out in the sixth inning, Brent Morel hit a chopper down the third-base line, denying Penny of a no-no, but still not doing enough damage to drive in some runs for the White Sox.

Trouble arose on the North and South Sides of Chicago as neither of our beloved teams could pull out a win. The Cubs suffered a hard-to-watch 12-2 loss to the Dodgers while the White Sox one again got our hopes up with a multi home-run game but fell in Detroit 9-3.

On Tuesday, he once again was overmatched by the opposition and missed the ball on potential help for his club. Recent reports suggested that the Sox were close to landing third baseman Miguel Cabrera from the Florida Marlins — a player that Ozzie Guillen referred to as his "fourth son."...

Fortunately, the local media are trying to talk Sox fans down off the ledge. It's not time to panic -- yet!

The Night Disco Died

Tonight marks the 25th anniversary of Disco Demolition Night at the old Comiskey Park. The brainchild of DJ Steve Dahl, the planned festivities were to blow up some disco record on the field between games of a double header against the Detroit Tigers.
