Murder charges against Jerry Hobbs, the Zion man accused of murdering his daughter Laura and her friend Krystal Tobias in 2005, have been dropped by prosecutors. The move comes after DNA evidence has been provided that links another man to the crime, clearing Hobbs of wrong-doing. The new suspect is from Zion but is currently being held in Virginia on charges of assaulting two women. Hobbs had originally confessed to the murders but later claimed he had been coerced.

South Side Strangling Suspect in Custody
An anonymous tip may have led Chicago police to a serial killer on the city’s South Side. DNA from a 24-year old suspect matches traces left with the remains of Siobahn Hampton, found strangled in an abandoned storefront. And DNA evidence from two other similar murders in the Roseland neighborhood match those found on Hampton. Connections to two other similar murders in the area are also being investigated.
DNA Catches Repeat Burglar Already In Jail
A Sauk Village man was charged on Friday for a March 2009 burglary after police matched blood from the scene of the crime to his DNA, Chicago Breaking News reports.
Carp DNA Found In Lake Michigan
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Army Corps of Engineers will announce this afternoon that an Asian Carp DNA sample has been discovered in Lake Michigan though no fish have been found in the lake. The announcement comes just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court denied the State of Michigan's request for an injunction to shut down the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
Cathleen Crowell Webb Dies at 46
Cathleen Crowell Webb, who shocked Chicago in 1977 by charging that Gary Dotson had kidnapped and raped her, died of cancer in New Hampshire yesterday. Crowell Webb, then a 16 year old student at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, alleged that Dotson had kidnapped and sexually assaulted her on July 15.
