The NBA trade deadline is early afternoon on Thursday, and the Bulls were expected to be active. But the Bulls didn't land Amare Stoudemire, nor did they trade Larry Hughes -- yet. In their first deal, the Bulls sent Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons to the Sacramento Kings in return for Brad Miller and John Salmons. There's a strong consensus that the Bulls were on the big winners of this trade, with the Kings looking to dump salary (the Maloofs lost millions to Bernie Madoff), and the Bulls gaining both help now and cap room down the road.

That's Amare

With the NBA trading deadline quickly approaching, trade rumors involving perhaps the biggest catch out there -- Phoenix Suns power forward Amare Stoudemire -- are circling back towards his landing with the Bulls. There is no doubt that Stoudemire would give the Bulls the front line scoring they need and the star type player they've been missing in recent years. The Suns seem to be very intrigued by Tyrus Thomas and are attracted to Drew Gooden's expiring contract. The Bulls, of course, want to move Larry Hughes and his overinflated paycheck. So can these two teams work out a deal? If Stoudemire does get traded, the Bulls seem to be the front runner now.

Has the sun set on the run-and-gun Phoenix squad? Without coach Mike D'Antoni and with big man Shaq on the bench, the Bulls ran roughshod over Phoenix on their way to a 100-83 win Friday night. Ben Gordon came off the bench to lead all Bulls in scoring with 23 points and rookie sensation Derrick Rose added 18 points and 6 assists. Said Gordon of the Bulls' #1 pick, "Watching him in practice, you can tell right away how special of a talent he is. He really doesn't surprise me with anything he does out there on the floor. I think he hasn't even scratched the surface.'' At one point, the Bulls went on a 16-0 run to go up 31-17 and never let the Suns back in. Rose, a new fan favorite, is taking the popularity in stride: “I was just trying to play basketball today. If they get out of their seats, that's great. I'm really just trying to play basketball.” With the win, the Bulls are .500 at 3-3 and are tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for third place in the division. Next up for the Bulls is a game against Cleveland tonight, their second game in four days against the Cavs.

Gooden's unique coiffure reminds us of one possible face on the Wooly Willy toy we remember from our childhood. The simple game, with its iron filings under plastic atop a hairless face and a magnet to "draw" with allowed for countless varieties of hairstyles and facial 'dos. But the bald and shaggy beard look is right there on the toy itself, among the suggested looks on the left side.
