We're not sure than the 2008 White Sox will be any more tolerable to watch than last year's team, but they'll no doubt be easier to listen to -- at least on the radio. That's because Steve Stone will be replacing Chris Singleton alongside Ed Farmer, the team announced on Tuesday.

While the Cubs and their fans held their annual love-in last weekend, this past weekend the rest of us gathered at the Palmer House Hilton to celebrate and commiserate with fellow White Sox fans. Given the airing of grievances by fans and feats of strength by team management, it could very well have been renamed SoxFestivus.

It was only weeks ago that Chicagoist was pleased to find that even national media had the same respect for the White Sox's radio duo of John Rooney and Ed Farmer that we do. Sadly, that team will soon bebreaking up after 14 years on-air together.

Chicagoist is a bit old school in that we still love to listen to baseball on the radio. Sure, more often than not we watch the games on TV, but there's a certain romance to having somebody describe the nuances of the game that can't be seen, that the slower pace of the sport allows for. And there also room for stories--of teams and player from years past. We were almost disappointed when play resumed following a White Sox rain delay a few weeks back because we were enjoying some great tales about managers who knew they were about to be fired.

No, not to another city! The Sox are moving south on your AM dial next year, having reached an agreement to move their game broadcasts to The Score 670 (WSCR) from their current home at ESPN 1000 (WMVP). The 5-year deal will pay the White Sox only $2.5 - $2.7 million per season, about half what they get in their current deal. Chicagoist isn't sure why they didn't wait until after winning the World Series...
