Our first Olympian joins the Chicagoist Podcast Series this week! And not just any Olympian - but the best male figure skater in existence at this moment in time - Evan Lysacek. In addition to taking home the gold from Vancouver just a month ago or so, he's also a native Napervillian, which is close enough for us.

Lysacek To Dance With The Stars
The Winter Olympics may be over, but men's figure skating champion and Naperville native Evan Lysacek will be twirling and whirling on a television near you. Prompted by a tweet from Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Cheryl Burke which invited him to join the reality television series, Lysacek actively expressed interest in joining the show after he won gold in Vancouver. All of the hype became a reality, and Lysacek was formally announced as a cast member on the coming season of DWTS beginning March 22. He'll join "celebrities" like Pamela Anderson, Shannon Doherty, Kate Gosselin and Buzz Aldrin [Ed's Note: The second man on the moon reduced to competing with Kate Gosselin and Pam Anderson? WTF? - M.G.].
Local Olympians Return With Lots of Medals
An exciting two weeks of Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver came to a close on Sunday, and as the athletes head home from Canada, the United States delegation will return having won more Olympic medals than any nation in a winter games ever has -- 37 total, (9 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze). For Future Figure Skaters, It's A Long Road To The Top
We're all in the throes of Olympic fever right now, particularly in relation to figure skating. That's been aided by the golden success of Naperville native Evan Lysacek who won gold in the men's figure skating competition, playing Rocky to Plushenko's Drago. But it's a long, tough road to get there and most won't make it. WBEZ takes a local look at some of Chicago's hopefuls to one day make it to the top of the podium and the long road they face.
Naperville Native Lysacek Is Golden
Naperville native Evan Lysacek won the gold medal in the men's figure skating competition last night at the Winter Olympics. It was the first U.S. gold in the event since Brian Boitano won gold at the Calgary Olympics in 1988. Lysacek entered the night in second place behind Russia's Yevgeny Plushenko but Lysacek skated a near flawless performance to edge Plushenko by just over a point in the final standings. It's the second straight night that the Olympics featured a golden Chicago flavor following Shani Davis' gold medal on Wednesday night. If you missed it, NBC has full video of Evan's performance available here.
