CTA Eyes Extending Red Line Southward
After 40 years of planning and promising to extend the Red Line further south by five and a half miles, it seems the wheels are finally in motion to do so, according to a report by Jon Hilkevitch in yesterday's Tribune.
City Gets Extension On Midway Privatization
The City has been given a brief reprieve in its deadline to submit plans for the proposed privatization of Midway Airport. The deadline for the submission to the FAA was for today, February 1, but the FAA has granted the City an extension until April 30. The City has been working on a plan for the privatization of the airport since the fall of 2008, but the credit crisis nixed the deal last spring. The proposal has since been resuscitated but the City has been more cautious on this second approach.
Public Opinion On CTA Expansion Split
Yesterday's approval by the CTA board of a plan to extend the Yellow, Red, and Orange lines has been met with a variety of responses from both supporters and detractors. WBEZ spoke to several people in Skokie about their concerns of extending the Yellow Line.
Taste of the Riverwalk Opens Walk Extension
The first annual Taste of the Riverwalk kicks off today, along with the opening of a new section of the riverwalk, running along the south bank of the river between Wabash and Michigan Avenue. It’s now possible to walk along the river from Wabash all along the lake without having to go up and down stairs.
