In a situation only slightly less disgusting and tragically hilarious than the time Dave Matthews Band's waste landed on that tour boat, mysterious "splotches" over a three block radius in Lisle may be human poop and pee. Police in the western suburb are investigating a substance that landed on and often stained roofs, lawns, streets, cars, etc. The yellow and brown stains were described as "the size of the palm of [a] hand." So beginning late 2008, Lufthansa is flying Airbus' new ginormous A380 double-decker plane from Chicago to Frankfurt out of O'Hare. The thing carries 850 passengers, has a 10,000-foot-long runway requirement and, should you want to find a good use for all of that extra cash you've got lying around, comes with a price tag of $290 million.

O'Hare is one of the world's busiest airport, and Midway is undoubtably the world's most penned in airport. So what's a growing city gonna do? Build what could be the nation's biggest and most expensive public works program in the middle of Southwest suburban farm country, in the form of an airport.

Actually, it isn't really, considering how much fighting goes on about O'Hare and Chicago's other airports, but Chicago officials, airlines and Illinois Congressmen have been jumping all over the Federal Aviation Administration's plans to extend flight caps at O'Hare Airport. Using an authority under the now-eliminated High Density Rule, the FAA and Department of Transportation can limit the number of flights taking off and landing at O'Hare, Laguardia, JFK and Ronald Reagan National. Last year, following years of complaints about delays, the FAA enacted a ceiling, resulting in a sharp decline in reported flight delays out of O'Hare. The new FAA flight caps would last until 2008.

Fly through O'Hare recently? It's miserable. Even worse when there's a major storm system somewhere in the US. Recognizing the problem, Transporation Secretary Norm Mineta called airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration and others together to set a cap on the number of flights going in and out of O'Hare every day. The voluntary cap, announced yesterday, of no more than 86 flights per hour reduces the number of flights by about 60 a day.

The race to become Chicago's next big airport Hooters up...er "heats" up this week, with the Federal Aviation Administration giving the go ahead for initial master plans of Peotone airport, and even more exciting, Hooters Airlines begins service out of competing Gary-Chicago Airport to Myrtle Beach, SC.
