Joseph Hubbard, assistant chief of the Newport Township Fire Department, was arrested today and charged with possession of child pornography. Per the Tribune:

A relative of Hubbard's notified authorities there were pornographic images of children on Hubbard's home computer, said Mary Stanton, chief of the Lake County state's attorney's cyber crimes unit.

He's no horse-puncher, but a Chicago firefighter found himself in hot water after a scuffle with an on-duty police officer. Firefighter Scott Holland was arrested and charged with aggravated battery of a police officer (a felony) after he punched an on-duty bicycle police officer patrolling the Bears post-game crowd last night. Holland's attack was enough to send the officer to the hospital for treatment. Not much about the fight is known other than that the two simply "got into it," so reports that they "rumbled" or that it was a "smackdown" appear a little exaggerated. [Sun-Times]

Keeping it all in the family, a Chicago firefighter has been placed on unpaid leave after he was charged with selling cocaine to a Department of Water Management worker. The firefighter, 62-year-old Ruben Santiago, was charged with "manufacture, delivery and possession of more than 15 grams of cocaine" while the DWM worker, 63-year-old Waldemar Cruz, was charged with "felony possession of a controlled substance." Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said, "At this time, there is no indication that anything illegal was done on city time. However, the conduct alleged clearly violates the oath taken to protect life."

In the category of foolish action, Dennis Goggin, a Chicago Firefighter who was also the Lincoln Park High School girls’ swimming coach was arrested in Elmhurst yesterday, and charged with indecent solicitation and attempted aggravated sexual abuse. Goggin is 42. According to officials, the internet was involved. He’s being held with a $150,000 bond at the DuPage County Jail.
