Annual Pride Parade to Draw 500,000

Just a friendly reminder, Chicago's 40th Annual Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Parade kicks off at noon in Lakeview today. The parade is expected to draw nearly half a million spectators and participants.

Let's start with a tough question: Who is Chicago's greatest filmmaker? When it comes to experimental film some might advocate for James Fotopoulos, whose output is both prodigious and relentlessly probing. When it comes to documentaries, Steve James is more than formidable. And on the narrative end of things although neither Andrew Davis nor John Landis quite make the grade, they've both had their moments. We would argue that the title should go to Tom...

This should be an awesome weekend for our summer photo contest. There are so many great parades and celebrations and festivals going on. You've got Intonation, Gay Pride, Clark Street Fest, and Jeff Fest, to name the big ones. And don't forget Ravinia's always going on. We know you're already bringing your camera, so when you upload your photos to Flickr, don't forget to tag them "Chicagoist". By doing this, you'll enter yourself into competition for Best Fest Photo of the Week. There's no prize, per se, but we'll feature your photo on the site and you'll get the fame (or infamy) that comes with having our entire audience see your photo. Have fun with it!

Under a relaxed liquor law advanced Wednesday over the objections of police and inner-city aldermen, alcohol sales may begin at 10am instead of the current 11am.

This Wednesday night, nine Individuals and three organizations will be inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, the world's only known municipally-sponsored hall of fame that honors members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities.
